Noon time Katey Update

Okay - just off the phone with the vet - She's raising her head and looking around. Which is really promising. He described her as "a little better" than when he first saw her yesterday. He's going to keep the fluids going all day - then inject fluids under the skin - and send her home with me overnight. I can't have any food out at the house - or water - because that will start her pancreas working and cause vomiting. Then he wants me back at the vet tomorrow morning - for more fluids - and we could perhaps start her on food and water on Thursday. The struggle tonight will be that she'll be home - but with a catheter in her arm - so I'll have to keep a very close watch on her - even at night - to make sure she doesn't try to remove it.

The doc has stopped calling the situation "dangerous" - which makes me feel a lot better about Miss Kate's prognosis. But it's making me crazy - with the cost of all of it (I'm a girl on a strict budget) the vet visit yesterday and the night in the ER was very expensive. I know it's all worth it - because he's starting to talk like Miss Kate can make a recovery.

on top of all this today - the new countertops went in at the apartment - so I have boxes of kitchen stuff all over my apartment - and I had to call and get out of jury duty this morning at the Superior Courthouse - and will have to do so again in the morning. I'm also on the phone fighting with DMV because the car tabs I paid for - STILLLLL have not arrived in the mail. I couldn't make up the last 24 hours if I tried. LOL! oivey!

so - I'll go by and pick up Miss Kate at 730 tonight and bring her home for the night. and then take her back into the vet at 10:30 in the morning. and try not to let all this stress make me spontaneously combust.

Robert - Aside from her inherent fabulousness, Miss Kate has been your touchstone of constancy and unconditional love through some pretty turbulent times. Will hope that this means you and she can enjoy some more (loving and less-turbulent) years together.

When writing this I decided I didn't know even approximately Miss Kate's age (although she would probably say "timeless" ;-)). How old is she ... and what's the typical life expentancy for her breed. I do know little dogs tend to be longer-lived. :)

Miss Kate will celebrate her 8th birthday on Monday. Your comment has me in tears. this is so damn hard. but I'm working best as I can to make sure Katey gets better. She's a border terrier schnauzer mix - and I could expect she'd live to 12 or 13 or so. She is my sidekick - and I'll do anything to get her better. but I'm also a big boy - and know that if she were in an irreversible situation - I wouldn't want her in pain or discomfort. I'm hoping with the doc's help - I can get her back up on all fours ASAP!
