So tonight we got our music for spring term with The San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus' "Sing Out!" concert of 60's songs. Over half the program I sang in 1996 or 1997 with the men's chorus in Seattle - so it will be a relatively easy quarter. However - the highlight was the arrival of Dallas conductor Dr. Tim Seelig who will spend the next three months directing the choir for the concert. He was funny - to the point - and basically - a big loud (pervy) breath of fresh air. I think singing for him will great amount of fun. We're singing mostly David Maddux arrangements of clumps of sixties music - and the highlight will be singing with local band "The Whoa Nellies" who will accompany the chorus the entire concert. It's going to be somethin' else! :) and a whole lot of fun. Stay tuned!

The 60's concert was a great deal of fun for us too when we did it with TCC in Dallas. Funny I thought SF had done it before...

Hopefully you are also going to get to do the arrangement of Yesterday that we did by Danny Ray as well.

Yep - it's in there. Apparently they did a version of this show 11 or 12 years ago. but this is way different with the whoanellies and such involved. but for the chorus - its Danny Ray arrangements and David Maddux medleys. I might have get up the guts to audition for Bridge Over Troubled Waters.

That is a show-stopper for sure. I loved an arrangement of Happy Together that I did with our small group "Accafellas".

I'm a bit envious that you get to sing under Dr.Selig's baton. Sounds like it's going to be a GREAT concert.

I hope your audience is ready for Tim Seelig! He's hilarious and has been known to steal the show. The best of him being there for 3 months is that he gets all the dirt on the local scene to dish back out to the audience.

I have a question. Does all this music come published for men's voices or does someone in the choir have to re-arrange it?

I'm curious.

Thanks.

Most of it is arranged for TTBB beforehand. David Maddux, for example, has done tons of arrangements for GALA Choruses. Other folks, like Eric Lane Barnes (assistant director of Seattle Men's Chorus) have done individual arrangements of songs which then get done by many men's choruses across the world.

When I was in the Seattle Men's Chorus, I think the only time we didn't have a TTBB arrangement done for us was when we did classical pieces. Granted, I've been gone for nearly 9 years now.
