I was chatting with a friend this morning about cheaper less-expensive gifts. and I suggested to him the "coupon book" concept. You make a set of of identically sized coupons for things like "You pick the next Netflix movie we watch" or "Free tank of gas" or "a weekend in Napa on me" or in Dave and I's case "Walk your OWN damn dog" - and then give them a coupon book of ideas and gifts that last all year long. Dave received one of my coupon books and he still raves about it with friends at parties and such - and you can really make these personalized.

what I did was go to the local stationary store and get one of those little leather bound 'diaries' - and I inserted the coupons in the book.... it gives it that sense of polish; and romance. (they come with a little box and look so nice! :) and the whole gift upfront costs about oh - $20. but lasts all year long - doing stuff - that you'd probably do ANYHOW.
