as Saturdays go...
Dec. 8th, 2007 08:55 pmthis one was simply divine.
For some reason lately - I've been up REAL early - this morning - I was WIDE AWAKE at 4am. So i got out the laptop and sat in bed with miss kate writing and researching and about 6am she looks over - gets up and just walks over and starts licking my face. like she suddenly realized I was awake. LOL. So we took a sunrisey stroll over to Alamo Square and back - and came back and had too much coffee together. she sat in the sun I drank coffee - we both got what we wanted.
Then - I broke out the kitchenware and made turkish hamburger stew. or at least thats what I'm calling it.
1 pd hamburger
4 tablespoons cummin
1 teaspoon ground coriander
2 pints of fresh plum tomatoes
2 cups macaroni noodles
1 pint of crumbled feta
1 onion
1/2 a cup of port wine
1 teaspoon sugar
salt and fresh ground pepper to taste
It came out like a real earthy chilimac. MAJOR sticktoyourribs yummy food. and I folded the feta in - as I was putting it in tupperware containers - and took it down to Crissy Field and surprised Eric with a picnic.
I served the stew - Doritos (both us claim nacho doritos as the best snackcrack money can buy) - fresh mango, dates, and hidden in the bottom - two truffles. We giggled and laughed and talked about his day trying to keep the citizens of SF from destroying the Presidio.
Then I gifted him with a hardback copy of my novel - signed - and ready for him to read on the plane trip home to Salt Lake for christmas. I'm so glad I have a good friend like him in my life.
Then Kate and I got in the mini and explored the Presidio. We walked around in front of the George Lucas studio - through the national cematary - and took a long walk through the upper trails. It was a beautiful, beautiful day. and I'm glad we stayed out in the sunshine.
When we got home - Miss Kate suggested a cuddlynap. who I am to argue with such wonderful logic?
We got up later and watched the DVD of HAIRSPRAY: THE MUSICAL - (not great - but not crap either)... and now we've been chatting with
cecilgene and
bukephalus online. I just
bearfuz's shiny feet. and all is good in the world.
I have two REAL interesting movies from Netflix on my counter.
The first is INTO GREAT SILENCE - a prize winner at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, director Philip Groening's study of the Grande Chartreuse monastery introduces a world of austere beauty, following the daily activities of the resident monks, whose silence is broken only by prayer and song. With no other sound save the natural rhythms of age-old routines being carried out, the film captures the simplicity -- and profundity -- of lives lived with absolute purpose and presence.
and the second - PARIS J'ETAIME - a collection of five-minute films about the City of Lights brings Paris to life with a unique patchwork of 20 stories. Numerous writers, directors and actors lend their distinctive vision to the project, employing a wide variety of styles and subject matter. Participants include Gérard Depardieu, Gus Van Sant, Ethan Coen, Joel Coen, Wes Craven, Marianne Faithfull, Steve Buscemi, Juliette Binoche, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gena Rowlands and many others.
I'll stay in tonight - I have a shift at the bookstore tomorrow - 10to6. :)
