Mocha = Love
Dec. 16th, 2007 09:09 amSunday morning paper, Miss Kate cuddles, and of course - the beloved Mocha.
Katey and I made up for the missed Friday Walk with a 2 and a half hour walk around the city this morning - - - out through the western addition and back through the panhandle by Buena Vista and home. The city was deserted - it was like Kate and I were it.
One of my favorite things to do with Miss Kate is learn new puppy songs. There is the "Yes Puppy Loves Me" (sung to Yes, Jesus Loves Me), Kate's favorite "You are So Beautiful" - - but this morning - while we were walking I came up with words for Miss Kate's version of Mame.
The actual words:
You coax the blues right out of the horn, Mame,
You charm the husk right off of the corn, Mame,
You've got that banjoes strummin'
And plunkin' out a tune to beat the band,
The whole plantation's hummin'
Since you brought Dixie back to Dixie land.
You make the cotton easy to pick, Mame,
You give my old mint julep a kick, Mame,
Who ever thought a Yankee would put
A little Dixie mouse to shame.
You've made us feel alive again,
You've given us the drive again,
To make the South revive again, Mame.
Mame of course is sung in this big sliding note - maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.
(giggle) so...
You coax the treats right out of the box, Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate
You charm men for cuddles every day, Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate
You work those baby browns
and wag that tail of yours,
you brought puppy couture back in styleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
you make walks so much fun to take, Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate.
you love to sniff and lick, Kaaaaaaaaaaaate
Who ever thought a terrier would
make a German Shepherd run and hide.
You've made us feel alive again,
You've given us the drive again,
You're just the best damn dog there is, Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate.
okay - so it doesn't ALL work. but - she loved it - doing the circle dance in the street as I got the hang of it. Actually - all she prolly heard was blah blah blahdeblah blaaaaah, Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate. (laughing) but - I know she loves our little songs - as she visibly reacts to them. (prolly because she can see I'm loving her so much when I sing them.)
so - once i decided on the words - we sang it in the morning sunlight on our walk. and I just know that there was someone like Gladys Kravitz - - "Abner! Abner! look - it's that queen singing to his dog again!"
anyway - time for the beautification ritual - then a day shift at the bookstore.
