Tonight was an evening in - watching the brilliant 'collective' film "Paris Je'Taime" - 20 five minute shorts that tell a personal story of Paris... from a boy helping a Muslim girl after skinhead boys trip her.... to a pair of men meeting in a printing press and declaring that they'd loved one another in a previous life and now immediately love one another in the present life... or a nurse in a maternity ward singing for five minutes to a baby - - its all very beautiful - and I'm so glad i found this film. It was remarkable! I'd give it a full five stars - it was brilliant, charming, poignant and unnerving in it's simplicity and five minute frames. some of the stories were edited where they appeared to run out of time - literally ending precisely on 5 minutes in length even if characters were in mid-sentence or in the middle of something. Simply wonderful! What made it all so wonderful were these shorts had participants including Gérard Depardieu, Gus Van Sant, Ethan Coen, Joel Coen, Wes Craven, Marianne Faithfull, Steve Buscemi, Juliette Binoche, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gena Rowlands and many others.
I sat and ate a lovely cheddar cheese melted sandwich and a cup of tomato soup. it made it even better.....
( here are two of the shorts behind a cut )
