more rouge....
Aug. 10th, 2008 10:26 pmWorking the stage...
Two ten hour days of rehearsals in a row! Yikes. Saturday's rehearsal was really tough going - nearly a lighting cue to go with each sentence in the script (a slight exaggeration but not much) - and some very sophisticated sound stuff to work out. Today's rehearsal? running the show (with stop and start) to test out what works in motion. Now - ahead of me - are four dress rehearsals then first preview on Friday (yay! an audience!) - - then a preview Saturday night and Sunday afternoon - then a blessed day off! The whole thing is coming together fantastically and I really can't wait. (so many cool surprises for folks that come see it) We're doing the production photoshoot in two weeks for those of you outside the city so you can see how it turns out.
My habit of saying "dear diary" has become the catch word with the cast. as well as the solution for ANY theater situation - roll your sleeves up - and well, more rouge. The cast is getting along better than any cast I've ever been part of... it is really a joy to work with these guys.
Meeting the Family
Saturday night, over dinner - - I met David's brother Steve, (another Dr. Goldberg), and his girlfriend. They were very sweet - and were apparently briefed on my habit of skipping the small talk and getting to the root of things. His brother is just as esoteric as my David - and it was delightful to see them bantering like schoolboys in their fifties. Steve tried to reveal David's childhood nickname and that was brought to a blistering halt. It apparently has something to do with the fact that David was a walking vacuum around food as a kid - even sneaking back for more afterwards - but the actual nickname alluded me in the conversation. They went on a walk with Miss Kate with us afterwards and headed back home. David thought it went really well. He credited my acting experience as my ace in the hole.
Houseguests in a studio apartment
Before I moved into the Muffin Penthouse - I had made plans to host my friends Ron and Mark (in town from New Orleans) to stay in my home Monday - Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Yikes. It's going to tight - but now I can test out my camping inflatable mattress - which is where Miss Kate and I will sleep the next few nights. The director hasn't decided if he'll let them come see the play on Tuesday or Wednesday... I hope he does. Ron and Mark are two of my dearest friends -and I'd love them to see the play. Unfortunately with my schedule- I'll see them in the mornings as I get ready to go to work - and evenings after the dress rehearsals (as the play didn't exist when they made their plan either). But Miss Kate will love having two favorite uncles around - and despite the crazyiness - theses are two friends I'd never NOT make time or room for. So there!
now for sleep - to make it through the next few days! YIKES!
