David and I had a tender emotional moment over breakfast this morning. David had been trying to tell me something over the last few days; you could see him pacing wondering how to bring up the difficult subject... and it finally came out over breakfast this morning - that he has a deep seeded suspicion that I use too much clothes washing soap per load.

He produced a clipped out copy of
this Wall Street Journal article for me to read as the basis for his suspicions. The article is titled: "The Great American Soap Overdose:
Too Much Detergent Makes Our Clothes Dingy and Our Machines Smell. Can New Products Break Our Sudsy Habit?" The article basically says that Americans use too much detergent - and it can make clothes loose colour AND make them more wrinkly. (and he had just asked me about what was I doing to laundry that was making things more wrinkly; I suggested it was leaving his laundry in the dryer for several days rather than taking out it right before the buzzer and folding it while it is toasty warm...)
We've been wondering what to do about a mildewy smell in the laundry room - and he has suspected it was something with mold in the washer. and so - we discussed the article and agreed to use less soap (or perhaps actually measure rather than "once around the load" like he's seen me do previously).
LOL! It was a laundry soap intervention!
So we were soon off to Best Buy - where we picked up a package of the WSJ article-reccomended deodorizer/cleaner for our washer and it's now churning its way through the first tablet in the washer. Dave feels like we've taken a step forward in our relationship - I'm glad that I also picked up a 2G memory card (upgrading from a 256mb) for my camera on sale! NATCH! So it's a good day.
