I woke up this morning super duper early - (even for me) - and couldn't get back to sleep. Miss Kate was very happy of course, because we went for morning walkies much earlier than normal. I got home and figured - what the hell - and headed over to the gym. Armed with Earth Wind and Fire on my iPod -- I treadmilled away last night's chocolate cream pie. (Mr. P forced it upon me! I swear!) I *heart* me some Earth Wind and Fire. Today started off with "September" - with that cascade of horns -

Ba de ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in september
Ba de ya - never was a cloudy day

- and apparently - I like the songs so much - I got caught playing sweaty drag queen by this cute musclebear. (giggle) anyways - as I got off the treadmill - he walks by again - and says that he also likes to treadmill to earth wind and fire. LOL! and recognized the song that I was grooving to. He says his partner teases him that EWF is the only thing he likes to listen to other than the radio. It was a real cute little conversation (and his spandexy shorts weren't bad either)

I took a walk through the neighborhood in the morning sun - all sweaty and continuing my EWF morning... and my iPod put on "After the Love is Gone"... and this particular song always make me laugh. One of my favorite memories of my days in karoake in the bear bar in Seattle was the night that the red hanky club came - and all songs sang that night - replaced "love" with "glove" - - so - "Endless Glove", "Summer Glove", etc. But the hands down best was "After the Glove is Gone" - partly because the word love is every other word in the song and - well - it quickly became a laughfest - because it was late enough that everyone was lubricated with beers that the whole bar broke out in "After the Glove is Gone..." complete with lighters out - swaying to the music. It's a real beautiful song - and this "gloverization" just gets funnier and funnier - particular with the barry manilow key changes up at the end.

Here are the gloverized lyrics:

For awhile to glove was all we could do
We were young and we knew
And our eyes were alive
Deep inside we knew our glove was true
For awhile we paid no mind to the past
We knew glove would last
Evry night somethin right
Would invite us to begin the dance

Somethin happened along the way
What used to be happy was sad
Somethin happened along the way
And yesterday was all we had
And oh after the glove has gone
How could you lead me on
And not let me stay around
Oh oh oh afterthe glove has gone
What used to be right is wrong
Can glove thats lost be found

For awhile to glove each other with all
We would ever need
glove was strong for so long
Never knew that what was
Wrong oh baby wasnt right
We tried to find what we had
Till sadness was all we shared
We were scared this affair would lead our glove into
Somethin happened along the way
Yesterday was all we had
Somethin happened along the way
What used to be happy is sad

Somethin happened along the way
Oh yesterday was all we had
And oh after the glove has gone
How could you lead me on
And not let me stay around
Oh oh oh after the glove has gone
What used to be right is wrong
Can glove thats lost be found

Oh oh oh oh oh oh after the glove has gone
What used to be right is wrong
Can glove thats lost be found
Oh woh woh after the glove has gone
What used to be right is wrong
Can glove thats lost be found

Oh woh woh after the glove has gone
What used to be right is wrong
Can glove thats lost be found
Oh woh woh
Oh woh woh after the glove has gone
What used to be right is wrong
Can glove thats lost be found

Woh woh woh after the glove has gone
What used to be right is wrong
Can glove thats lost be found
Woh woh woh

Just TRY to listen to this song the same again. :)

Glove is a danger of a different kind.

We used to sub "love" with "drugs".

Have you met [livejournal.com profile] otterpop58? He rewrites lyrics to famous songs and then calls them at square dances. He's quite witty (not to mention handsome!) and the dance is so much fun this way. I've heard [livejournal.com profile] fuzzygruf call this way, too. It's hilarious.

This is what you miss when you don't learn square dancing with us. Join the square side!

I love EW&F! I saw them in concert in 1984 (I think it was); they were amazing!

I will have to send you the '99 remix of "September." I still use it in sets; as recently as last February in fact!
