Well I cashed in the last of my American Miles.
I'm headed to visit Ron and Mark in New Orleans for Presidents Day Weekend - (Feb 13th to the 18th). Ron and Mark run a Bed and Breakfast - which they are closing down and inviting a few friends to stay over that weekend in their B&B for free!
So what does that mean folks? with miles it's an almost free trip! Yay! and being a cheap bastard - I love the sound of that.
Valentines Day in New Orleans!
So it'll be seven of us - running around checking out the spots - and seeing stuff. I've never been to New Orleans so - I'm pretty excited.
Are there any LJ peeps in New Orleans out there? Anyone with ideas of what to do, etc? since it'll be three couples and moi - I perhaps might need some alone time - to let couples do what couples do. :) I'm sure there are museums there - but how have they recovered post-Katrina. Anyone up for a list of things I should not miss while in New Orleans?

Date: 2008-01-17 04:44 pm (UTC)* Bars: Lafitte's in Exile. Daddy Central.
* Restaurants: Hard to go wrong, but think about lunch (less expensive) at The Commander's Palace (http://www.commanderspalace.com/). It's freakin' amazing.
*Do walkabouts in both the French Quarter and the Faubourg Marigny, & down Magazine St. (art galleries and antique stores).
I love New Orleans. Have a great time!

Date: 2008-01-17 05:01 pm (UTC)the 1850 House, if it is open. Museum in the Cabildo of a wealthy antebellum home.
The Longvue House. Built in the 1920s, the gardens are fantastic. The interior is gorgeous, too.
The Audobon Zoo.
The Aquarium of the Americas
A Swamp Tour (ask for the best ones)
A Cemetaries Tour (do not go alone, go with a group, because scary people live in the cemetaries, and they avoid tour groups, but will assail a single tourist)
The French Market
Outside NOLA, the beautiful plantation, Nottaway.
Have fun, and take lots of pictures!

Date: 2008-01-17 07:26 pm (UTC)Hey, do you attend a shul in SF? I don't really belong to one, but I sometimes attend at the Chabad Lubavitch centers in the peninsula. Unfortunately, there are no Orthodox synagogues within walking to distance to my house (for Shabbos). Maybe when you get back from your trip to Australia, we can meet for coffee.
Safe travels! :)
