confederate sentry....
Feb. 16th, 2008 06:59 pmthis statue at the cemetery also caught my eye - this was a "sentry" outside a memorial to Civil War losses in New Orleans that served as the first crypt for Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy. The detail in the statue caught my eye and it is just beautiful. I grew up in the Northwest - so never got the real feel for the civil war - and places like New Orleans reek of the history of once (for a brief period of time) being at war with the United States. But my hosts talked about how Jefferson Davis retreated here after The Union took Atlanta. and what a roll it took in that intense part of our nation's history.
