Interesting. I don't think I know that many gay men that write. I think inately that gay men are more creative thinkers - and that kind of gaythinktm leads someone to tell them "you should write a book about that" and VOILA - another damn gay is writing! (laughing)
Honestly - I have never been a big fan of writing as "work" to do. I've written poetry since I was 12 - but didn't start REALLY writing until my late 30s.
Writing for me - at the time - and the writing that became the first novel? was an escape from a lonely long past the freshness date relationship. It began as a handwritten diary entry about how it might have ended up if I'd not fucked up the relationship BEFORE the man I was with. That man is who I based the main love interest in House of Wolves upon. that fact - was so inherent in what I wrote that my ex whom I was with at the time has never read it. I don't write to leave a legacy - I was just experiencing loss and loneliness - and wanted to write about romance and sex. So I did! :)
Since the first rough pages - it did evolve into something entirely different. and writing House of Wolves is the most rewarding personal project of my entire life. Who knows if I'll actually write another. I have some stories percolating. I've also thought about writing a play. or a short film. but I don't think I'm writing for some sort of legacy. no. I write what's in my heart - and have found a real great pastime as a result. :) thanks for the good question.
