I got home last night and Miss Kate glued herself to me. Everywhere I went - packing boxes she sat and stared at me. studying me. She sat on the couch (soon not to be our couch) and studied my every move. As her Uncle Lance ([livejournal.com profile] althrman) says - her face said "What are you up to, NOW?!" Miss Kate has always been very 'in-tune' - she's happy and dancing and playful when I am - and knows to come in close and snuggle when I'm not feeling well, or I'm feeling down. Even when I cry during a chickflick (a favorite thing to do actually) - she'll snuggle up on my chest and lick my cheek. She's very much in-tune. So as my excitement and twitterpation level has increased coming up on the move this weekend - she's started looking after me. (smile) David's term as he talked to me about this week was "try not to anxietize all week." How sweet - but he also knows it's precisely what I'll be doing. I'm constantly visualizing where "stuff" will go as I pack it into boxes. My brain is already organizing the walk in - and where stuff will go in the kitchen. I'm already thinking about "what will my new morning routine be with walking Miss Kate in Civic Center park.." and "I wonder if I can reserve the roofdeck for a champagne party in the fall when the view will be so gorgeous...." and "how fun it'll be to come home for lunch to Miss Kate..." etc. so right now she's curled up in a Kateyballtm directly at my feet. She's not letting me out of her sight. Good girl.......

grin... I always feel so guilty when I pull out the suitcases cause Little Girl, Sophie and Max *all* know that means I'm going to leave for a while. They all hop on the bed and stick with me while I pack and don't leave my sight when those suitcases are out. It's even worse when Bob does it too cause they must know they will be totally alone for a few days or a week. I so hate leaving them alone but better than sending them to a kennel for the week. One of these days I need to develop a good house sitter relationship instead of just having someone come over twice a day to feed and give them lovins and even that is hard to find people to do :(

yeah - I usually take Miss Kate to an Uncles house for a stay. (I've been warming [livejournal.com profile] sfleatherbear and [livejournal.com profile] bibliocub up to the idea of being dogsitters for one another.

it's not so hard with the cats, they don't much care, but Little Girl is definitely less happy with the time alone. Luckily both my Mom and one of Bob's best friends are able to usually pitch hit back and forth, and both spend a good long time with them when babysitting. Lots of times my Mom will bring her laundry over and spend the afternoon with them. But... sometimes neither is available and we end up paying the critter care folks :P

Wasn't it only a week or so ago that you rejected even checking a place out because of the expectations of the potential roommate and now you not only have found a place, but are moving?

Girl! You work fast, don't you?

Good luck!

I actually have gotten in the habit of talking to my cats, Armand and Pandora, when something is afoot. Just letting telling them out loud that I am going away for a work trip, staying the night at Bill's (tinman11201), moving furniture, vaccuuming...has really seemed to help cure their anxiety. Maybe try a heart to heart with Ms. K?

Being pet free for many years, I forgot about this empathic ability that animals have. How great that you have her there through daily ups and downs. Thanks for a sweet and wonderful post.

it will soon be my neighbor's couch. it was a great couch - but honestly - there will always be another couch - and the new space is more suited for a nice poofy loungy chair :)

She is going to sooooooo love you coming home for lunch.

OR.....

She's going to look at you as if to say "WTF are you doing here? This is my dog time, not my human time!!!"

Dogs always know what's going on. They can sense when a move is being planned, and frequently get anxious incase we might forget to pack them too! (as if).

Of course, while they'll stick by your side as the mountain of boxes, tissue, and tape grows, they'll NEVER lift a paw to help.
