So - tonight I'm off to audition at New Conservatory Theater for "Friends are Forever" by Tom Kelly. You might remember that I did a reading of this play back in January. Tom's play got picked up as the summer stock production and he's asked me to audition. Sweet! He likes me for the roll of Steve - the masseur who's conflicted about giving happy endings when 'at work'. This'll be fun. I got feedback at my last audition that my headshot wasn't flattering.

I used this shot:

for this audition I'm using this one:

It's all about appearances eh?

a smiling photo would be better. just thinking outloud.

I have so few pictures with a true "smile" that I could use as a headshot. I'll take a look though.

Your smile is dazzling and can be distracting for those swayed by such things. Please use your powers for good. I would like to wish you luck, but if you are playing a masseur, I don't know if "Break a Leg" is a good thing to say.

what about the balcony shot? i didnt mean to be critical, but especially the new photo you chose has this "its hot out here, take the photo" expression that doesnt really express "the real muffin"

Of the two, the second one is better. The first one suggests you should be on anti-depressants. Other than that, I'm with your brother.

auditions aren't about "the real me" their about how do I look - how do I sound - and how quickly during a a reading do I become a character. We'll see. :)

Good luck with the audition, Robert. Change the headshots up is a great choice; you look kinda angry in the first one... :)

The second shot is much more typical of the genre, which helps -- they can focus on you, factoring out the pose.

Yes, but I think you'd want a general-purpose one, independant of the role for which you're currently auditioning.

Boyish, but a little too "Just Jack".

You've past "thoughful" and slammed head-on into "indecisive".

I was so not being serious....

Good luck!

I adore Tom and have known him for years.

The cleanshaven shot was never a favorite of mine. You have such luxurious facefur, work it! I like the smiling "masseur" shot you posted above.

Tom is a tremendously sweet and darling man. :) It would be such a joy to perform in one of his plays...

The second shot is much stronger for audition purposes, both in composition and because it appears more professional. Break a leg at the audition. You'll really get to show them your acting chops .. I'm sure Bob, the person, would not be as conflicted about "happy endings" as his character would be! *teasing*

HUGS!

my entire life is a happy ending! LOL!

i'm off - -- I'll report back later. at an audition at this theater a while back I thought I had a lackluster night - but got great feedback - so we'll see. you know it all goes. :)

I was going to say it looks professional as well. I like the subtle "looking up to you" angle the shot was taken versus the "looking down on you" angle of the other.

The second one, by far. Next time, try to get rid of the 'worry lines' ;)
