(friends are forever) first rehersal

thoreauSo last night was the first rehearsal for the new play. The director talked about his vision for the play - and what he was expecting of us. He's very bright, energetic and intense. The cast is visually exactly what you'd expect from reading the script - - which was most entertaining. The bear couple (Roger and Mike), the precious queen (James) and his callboy boyfriend putting himself through medical school (Bill), and an oversexed muscle boy (George) and his boyfriend whom everyone else has slept with (Steve). It plays like a very gay version of Sex in the City - and the director has decided to really embrace that "feel" - and go with a high fashion glamorous set design and costume set. so it'll be a blast to get dressed and 'become' Roger every night.
Roger (my character) is someone who desperately wants to be the naughty boy - and do whatever it takes to please Mike. The only problem is the only example of naughty Roger knows is from really bad porn - lines from which he tries to use a few times to add "spice" to the conversation - only resulting in bringing everything to a screeching halt. It'll be fun to learn Roger and let the director lead us towards opening night.
Tom Kelly's play is lightning fast in the dialogue department - so the director wants us off book as soon as possible. so - it's going to be hard work - but I think the play is going to be beautifully staged and he attracted (me aside) a talented, and visually attractive cast. :) this is going to be lots of fun!

Date: 2008-07-05 12:17 pm (UTC)I was heavily involved in drama when I was young... and was GOOD - always picked for the lead roles. But something happened to me (which my shrink and I are trying to work out), and I became painfully shy, introverted and full of self-doubt, and would constantly pull out - so I ended up never getting picked... *sigh*
Good luck! It sounds like it's gonna be SUCH a fun play!
