As much as I was looking forward to "The Dark Knight" - I can say that the trend for more realistic and brutally violent movies makes me not sure if I enjoyed this movie or not.

Heath Ledger is AMAZING honestly - and is the least violent of the lot. It's what he insinuates and what he represents that makes him so scary. He's not your average comic book bad guy - he doesn't want the money - or the secret device or world domination - this "Joker" is after total, complete chaos. and revels in the path there, particularly telling when Batman is beating on him and he laughs through it like it's a tickle session, maniacally - - because he's enjoying watching Batman lose control. He truly gets off on it in fact. The rest of the movie is a very very dark representation of "gotham city" - plagued by hate, violence, corruption and death.

This movie is shockingly violent. Violence scares me a great deal - (even more when it's on a 30 foot IMAX screen) - and I'm not sure entirely why (horror movies are simply out of the question - as they are nightmare inducing) and I am going to explore that in my handwritten diary (as in - not on LJ) a little.

It is much easier to see this kind of violence in a comic book - but as the movies catch up with the RAWness of a Frank Miller character like the Dark Knight? You also see that violence as far more real, and not far from your doorstep. and in real life there is no Batman with gadgets out there to swoop down and keep you from falling when you do. My rawest emotion coming out of the movie? powerful, moving palpable sadness. and I find that all very interesting.
