So - Christopher [livejournal.com profile] scream4noreason started a meme about interests in our profiles. He suggests going to your interests - picking one and talk about it. To my surprise - over the four or five years I've been LJ'ing - I have 142 interests listed. So - I'll turn this meme slightly and say that you should pick the interests I have listed that interest you. I'll discuss the interests that the first ten comments on this entry ask about... so peruse the list - and if something touches your fancy, ask me about it and I'll respond to your comment. (First 10 only).

Ready. Set. Go.

Hemingway is an interesting one to choose. He was an Idaho native (as in the State of Idaho, USA)... and of course, was a world famous author. One of the research projects I loved when I first moved to Idaho in 1999 - was tracking down his whereabouts and his suicide in 1961.... He is a treacherously complex man - and his writings say so much. One of my favorite books is THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA for which he won the Nobel Prize. Not having suicidal tendencies - I retraced his places where he found inspiration in his life and have visited them from Key West to Ketchum, Idaho. and he remains a literally mentor - right there with Thoreau and Whitman. and honestly, only because in November 1999 I moved to Idaho and his life there was brought to my attention when doing a yahoo search on great idaho writers. I don't know whether literary circles would call him a great "idaho" writer - but he is one of the greatest literary minds of our time.

IT MAKES ME CRAZY - the whole Rickisodetm was a frustrating lesson in dealing with passive aggressive behavior.

Defined as (by Wikipedia):

Passive-aggressive behavior refers to passive, sometimes obstructionist resistance to following authoritative instructions in interpersonal or occupational situations. It can manifest itself as learned helplessness, procrastination, stubbornness, resentment, sullenness, or deliberate/repeated failure to accomplish requested tasks for which one is (often explicitly) responsible. It is a defense mechanism, and (more often than not) only partly conscious.

passive aggressive people build truths around them that they are the only ones who can see it - they construct an entire WORLD VIEW based on their needs and their desires - and the expense of everyone elses around them. it can be maddening.

Fly fishing - you don't seem the type.

actually fly fishing is a very zen - truly meditative sport. My ex in Idaho (Jon) taught me how when I moved there. Fly fishing is such a patient thing. It's not put your poll in the water and wait- it's an active act of patience. Finding the angle that will make them jump at your lure - finding that stillness in the water that will let them think your lure is a fly and not a hook. Granted - since the two years I've lived in SF - I have not fished once.

I think that life will find me back out in a suburb or a town with a lake - and perhaps I'll have you three out for a visit - and I'll show you how to fly fish. :) It'd be my great pleasure.

I can also answer about cum - but I'm curious why you were curious more than my answer about why it interests me :)

Pushy Bottoms?

nothing is less of a stiffy killer than a bottom that just layes there. doesn't speak - doesn't push back at you. I love pushy bottoms that just can't GET enough cock inside of them when you are fucking them - the act just turns them into a cursing needy cock swallowing machine.

Lost Languages?

I do have a thing for mythology and ancient history - - whether its wondering what it would be like to read Rumi's words in Farsi - or be able to speak ancient egyptian its something that has always intriqued me. Last spring - I remember posting (I couldn't find it looking) about a economist article about a woman who was the last living speaker of her native tongue in Alaska. and she'd died - and the writer wrote the most amazing article. its something that has always really touched a nerve in me. I love finding recordings of native legends in the Salish tongue - or the apache or the maya. its only then you can hear the ancient story in it's purist form.

Warm woolen mittens?

I love snow. I love going out in the snow in thick woolen mittens that keep my fingers warm. its that simple. I don't like the form fitted gloves - but bright coloured woolen mittens? It's also from one of my first memes where it had you talk about the verse from MY FAVORITE THINGS and what those objects brought to mind from your life. thats how they all ended up in my interests.

Sleeping naked?

I love camping in the summer when it's warm enough to sleep naked. I wear a nightshirt in the winters - and the freedom of being able to sleep (and not get cold) all naked is wonderful. This summer for instance - its been lovely to be able to go to bed naked with David and stay warm.

Sure Robert, go ahead and shift this topic into my court! Perhaps it's because anything sexual sparks my interest and I'm an old perv! But then again I may have been a sexologist in a previous life. LOL

My thinking of cum is of course slanted toward the spiritual; that is just how I view the world. The wonder and mystery of life being passed on through these building blocks of life is awesome. I see kids today that are the spiting image of their great grandparents (long dead)that I knew as a kid. For me that is powerful life affirming image.

But when we cum we are very rarely thinking of this wonder and mystery, while we may be crying "Oh God!" "Oh God!" it's not really a pray of wonder and awe. Oh is it? :)

Like any sexual act,cum and cumming, can become greatly sexualized and means different things to different people. Snowballing and facials are popular in the porn world, the smell and taste of cum adds to intensity of the sexual act, and a pre-cumming dripping pecker can be a powerful turn on.

Anyway I would guess that all of these feelings are pretty common for folks tuned into their sexuality but it's a subject that's not talked about in "polite" society.

So the chance to hear other people's views of what cum means to them and how it influences their sexual self is one I couldn't resist.

Back to you, Robert!

I came to Hemingway through teaching fiction writing. Are there any stories better than "A Clean, Well-Lighted Place" and "Hills Like White Elephants."
