We started off the day very late - with the time change - we didn't roll out of bed till nearly 11am. Yikes! After breakfast - we headed over to the warehouse for Steve's (David's Brother in Law) business to go through boxes of stuff David and his sister had inherited from their mother. David and I wrapped and boxed a beautiful set of handpainted "Franciscan" dishes - done in the red apple pattern. A full setting of everything for 12. (huge for Dave who has plastic plates at home) We looked through things like his baby book - his math awards in grade school that led to his scholarship in math at University of Wisconsin Madison - and later at Princeton. It was very interesting seeing that glimpse of that side of his early years - when he literally as his sister put it - "fell in love with Math." It is definitely part of David's charm - his LOVE of what he does.

So - this afternoon we visited the Harley Davidson Museum with David's sister Laurie, brother in law Steve and nephew Gehrsh. (Ge-ar-sh) While not necessarily my first choice - the bikes were an 'art form' of their own and it was interesting to see the evolution of the motorbike - and how WW2 forced the evolution of several innovations. They also had a fantastic gallery of bikes year to year - the entire line. including one of the first bikes to come off the line. It was great to do something with Dave's sister who was VERY excited to do. All of the employees were extremely knowledgeable and it was very friendly. We went to try and see the new Milwaukee Art Museum next - but it was closed for a private wedding. (disappointed!) But - it is a beautiful modern building.... and I fell in love with it as the building "spread it's wings" - the roof of the building literally rising and taking flight. Beautiful!

Tonight we went to dinner at Laurie's favorite Italian place; and while Steve and I watch violent shoot'emup spy recipes in the den and play on our computers - - Dave and Laurie are scanning David's favorite recipes from his mother's old recipe file ("The" Chocolate Cake and Matzoh Ball Soup with "schmaltz" (rendered chicken fat? yikes!?)) so I guess I'll be cooking like a Jewish Mother soon. Oivey! (Michael Levy? [livejournal.com profile] sfleatherbear? David says that you and he should both be a little afraid! (giggle))

Tomorrow? Off to Chicago tomorrow on the 11am train to meet David's cousin Laurie - and see a production of "The Portrait of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde.

Having a great time!
