No on 8 ads started on KOIT 96.5 FM this afternoon - but 'No on 8' has not yet purchased time on KDFC 102.1.

I realize KDFC must reach a broader audience to be a successful commercial classical music outlet - but do you think it came down to age?

At least KOIT is supposed to reach a lot of people! I wonder if things would've been different had my company still owned them.

KOIT AND KDFC combined reach nearly a 7 figure daily audience between on air CUME and streaming. KDFC is the #1 internet streamed station in the bay area on Itunes. Combined they are a rockstar buy for any advertiser.

I think it's appalling that we -- and by "we," I mean progressives, gays, advocates of the gay community, libertarians, anyone of any humane stripe -- that we would turn on one another at this juncture in the political season.

We're facing, as a nation, the most important political season of our lives -- we may never have another chance to turn the tide if things don't progress beyond the dominant worldview in the White House right now.

To attack you, Bob, for what the station is doing is unthinkable. I'm grateful to have "inside information" on the way advertising issues are decided -- and mandated, so thank you for taking time to speak to all of us about this.

Right now, it's time to dig down and give money. Donate to some political cause or person or party in which you believe. Get your credit card and find a Website NOW. Obama has been able to counter McCain's negative ads at a something like two-to-one ratio in certain markets because of his $250 million fundraising month in September. This ALL comes down to advertising, friends -- we live in the most media-saturated country there is, and if we don't take control of the message and the airwaves, then THEY will.

And they have, as Bob has told.

If we don't hang together right now, at this moment, then we shall surely hang separately for a long time to come. They'll see to it. So stop them. Do something, anything, donate anything, however much or little you can afford, and take a stand.

In honor of the flack you've caught on this I just ponied up again for "No on 8".
Your aggravation hasn't been without a tiny bit of good coming from it.

*IF* you were working for a station that solicited and promoted "Yes on 8" ads it would be one thing. To whack you because of policies that would be in effect anywhere you worked in the field is another.
From reading your LJ for a few years, I think accusing you of being a Closeted Log Cabin GOPer is an indication that some people either don't read or retain much. (btw, the idea of a CLCGOPer makes my head spin from the irony fumes).

Well that's awesome. It sounds like B. treated them right and so far "Company E" hasn't screwed them up yet. Hopefully never will. :-)

On a more serious note, I am sorry to hear they cut back air staff (nights across all 3?) and assistants. I got my job as a result of the swap. The previous company didn't believe in the necessity of office personnel.

James - truly, that would be the dictionary definition for "A Man Who Is Definitely Not Robert McDiarmid".

Robert is a nicer (and probably more rational ;)) man than I. If this had been done to me, the next day's LJ post would have included every f*cker's full name, email address, LJ handle and the text of their message to me.

Shame? Maybe. But people who behave like this, don't value tact, critical thinking and kindness. The only way to get their attention is to call them on their sh*t in public.

They still might not grow up ... but might think twice the next time.

How childish and frustrating that people feel they have a right to email you about decisions your company makes. These are the same people who don't volunteer, don't write checks, and don't get involved - until it's too late. Then they complain bitterly and question why everyone is against them.

We have an army of fighters (think Stonewall Queers, the NY response to the AIDs emergency, the volunteers working to defeat Prop 8, and the many others working for action committees and political campaigns) who are willing to put themselves out there to improve things for our community, and then we have the whiners. I'm sorry you became a victim of the whiners.

It just amazes me how narrow minded some people swimming in the shallow end can be. Not all dots can be connected with a perfect job and life. Those of us who work in the real world know that sometimes conflicts arise from what we do and the companies we work for. Are these differences critical enough to quit a job, maybe, but certainly not this time. You personally have no connection with Congress who sets the rules of the game when it comes to political ads. You have through other actions behaved nobly and should feel no shame when it comes to your actions and your politics. You have nothing to be ashamed of, nor do you have anything to apologize for. It is so much easier for others to find fault in others than take that inner look and review their own actions.

Wow. You've certainly got my vote for "walking wounded with the most bullet holes." Yes, you're a representative of the company, and yes, you should get feedback as a result of that, but personal attacks are out of order.

My understanding at this point: your company has no choice but to air the ads by law, with no regard to falacious content. The company's options are effectively limited to running disclaimer statements before and/or after each "Yes on 8" ad. It can't refuse them legally, and it's unclear that the company could afford to forgo the revenue by allowing both sides free advertising (or if that would even be legal.)

Your presentation of the facts surrounding the political advertising laws is appreciated, as is your overall positive presentation in the face of what can only feel like a wholly unjustified betrayal.

I'll hope it lets up on you soon.

Want to hear something horrible. I was reading an article about who has been donating money on both sides of Prop. 8 and one of the largest contributors for Prop 8. (donating $1 million dollars) is the Knights of Columbus. Ugh! On my father's side of my family, they are all part of the Knights of Columbus and actually have a summer party for them at my aunts house every year. I'm definitely forbidding my father from playing Santa Claus at their Christmas Party!
