My handsome friend Brett [livejournal.com profile] septimuswarren sent me the link today to "Get To Know Us First."

quoting their website:

"We successfully ran our ads on broadcast and cable television in 42 of California’s 58 counties before, during and after the Presidential Inauguration on January 20, 2009. These images of happy gay and lesbian families are new for many viewers and our work has just begun.

Next stop? The Super Bowl! Every dollar we collect will go to purchase ads during the most viewed sports event of the year (Sunday, February 1, 2009). No doubt, our PSAs will be the topic of many a water cooler conversation. I am willing to believe that, stacked up against the Cheetos, Fritos and Pepsi ads, ours will stand out as remarkable!

Because we have partnered with POWER UP, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, every dollar you contribute is tax deductible AND goes exclusively to buy media time. There is no overhead (paperclips, staff, gala events, reimbursed mileage, etc.) This a $0 budget project... everyone donated their time and talents and POWER UP produced these ads FOR FREE!

Give generously and help us to put these ads on the air!"

Simply amazing work...

Wow. Did someone read my mind (or comment to your morning post)? :>)

Note, thhe above are rhetoical; the idea is just an exection in common sense and trusting that most people are kind and (mostly) non-judgmental.

Thank to you and Brett for the heads-up!

I wish this post got as many comments as "look - I'm shirtless" - it appears post-election that nobody is really interacting about politics on LJ. (big frustrated sigh)

Brilliant, truly brilliant. Would've been better 3 months ago, but there's no time like the present!

yep - nice positive way to think about it. :) I like how they've teamed with a nonprofit and got the videos done for $0.00 - that really makes fundraising easier - when folks know there money is going directly to visibility and not overhead. (my issue with the AIDS rides and marathons, while nice - are sometimes 60% overhead)

Thanks for the tip! Do you know if the Super Bowl buy is actually happening, or if it is dependent on the money they raise from here on out?
