Dave: (poking head around corner) Do I smell onions? You know how I feel about onions - they are an abomination...

Muffin: No honey - you are smelling leeks... don't worry

Dave: oh - okay. (leaves kitchen)

I didn't bother telling him that leeks are basically giant green onions.

I'm making a pork loin baked with leeks that were reduced in butter and white wine, a broccoli/bokchoy stir fry with sesame oil, corn drop biscuits, and a hearts of romaine salad.

An abomination? Too funny

LOL My husband's father won't eat noodles but loves spaghetti.
He also says he doesn't like sour cream, but several of the dishes he enjoys are made with it.

and I have a friend who loves aiole, but detests mayonnaise.

its a texture thing - he'll enjoy onion "flavor" in dishes but I have to food process it so that now "big pieces of yuckyness" are on his plate. He really asks for very little - and really loves my cooking - - so this is the least I could do for him.

You could also try shallots or pearl onions. All the flavor, none of the abominationness.

Leeks, and onions generally, are food of the gods. Unfortunately my husband seems to have offended said gods, who have punished him by making onions give him indigestion.

Okay, thank you for that snarky remark, it just made my day.

I could make you a frilly apron, if you'd like...that is, if I knew how to sew!
