I was a bit frustrated by last night's episode, to be honest. I don't think it was a particularly smart dramatic device to have an almost incoherent Anders, just about to undergo brain surgery, be the one to reveal five tons worth of babbling exposition about who the Final Five are, what they're doing, etc. I confess, I didn't get half of what he was saying - it was too hurried and unfocused. Maybe I need to watch it again. Maybe I wasn't in the right mindset to be bombarded with so much material in a matter of minutes.
I'd have liked to have seen a more leisurely exposition of the big questions of the show.
But - it was fun to see John Hodgman ("I'm a PC" guy and occasional "Daily Show" presenter) have a small part as the brain surgeon.
I liked how they spilled it, with the brain damage thing, your left with the questions about did he download when near death? Could he be rebooted? And the with PC guy doing the brain surgery, is this a BSoD that he can be reloaded/rebooted or can they just load the MAC OS on him?
But the delivery was good, mixed with Ellen and John's discussion gave the basis that will be built on. I don't know how many more episodes they have left, it might be they didn't have the time to do it slow.
The lust for the metal body that the John unit expressed..I am wondering if she may just give him his wish with the new res. ship and they all come back as modified centurions.
I felt it was a bit rushed - and probably because they only have a handful of episodes left. I think they should have paced it together. It was too much for my peanut-sized brain to chew over... :-)
Maybe I hadn't noticed it before, but were there new opening titles last night? It was cool to see the original 'toasters' in the titles.
Indeed, the whole episode was very rushed (!) like they had to explain everything before a sudden series cancellation. I'm going to have to watch this again and again.
Maybe that's what the producers intended all along, eh?
I found this explanation of last night's episode. I must need caffeine, because even after I read it, I still don't quite get it all - just too much compressed into one episode.
that was part of it - that for me - was brilliant - she woke up after being poisoned with a centurion looking over her - and was suddenly - almost instantly calm. Once she realized she created everything before her. Pretty amazing acting job - just her in the ooze - and saying to the centurion "Can you help me up? you can do that? thats very nice of you" :)
I also think they are setting it up for the gallactica to become a living machine. thoughts?
the 7th may also be downloaded in starbuck's body. remember Ellen said "Daniel" was an artist - and what was Starbuck when she returned. Painting murals on the Demetrious walls.
Yeah - they're making such a big deal about repairing the ship with Cylon ooze - I think it might be a metaphor for the notion that the humans and cylons are somehow one and the same, and are/will be merged, somehow.
But in the earlier part what and who she really was was blocked, both her and Ty were drunks. Once the mental blocks lifted (partly for Ty) the drinking seems to have stopped.

I think that's a fascinating idea about the ship - before this episode, I assumed that Galactica itself would meet its end in the finale, but now I'm intrigued by the ooze & what you suggest.
Could be, what I find interesting is the blending of Human and Cylon into a new race. Is that what Adama is really afraid of?
I don't think Pithia was wrong, and Roselin is still alive, so I don't think they have found the real earth yet.
Also, the only Cylon kids came from an "old" cylon with a "new" cylon pairing. The Ty and Ellen pair never had kids, is that part of what was built into the new cylons so they could be a race that didn't need res. technology?

Where exactly ARE they right now? Are they hovering above Earth, trying to decide what to do next? Or are they wandering aimlessly around the universe? I'm a bit unclear as to where, if anywhere, they're traveling to. Maybe I missed something.
From the new preface footage of the old-model Cylon Centurions to the Resurrection of Ellen to Cavil's diatribe about the sensory limitations of the human form ... YEAH, I have to agree with you. BSG is arguably the greatest sci-fi series ever the grace a television screen, if only because it consists of one gigantic story arc that is moving toward a (hopefully satisfying) conclusion. It continues to be utterly mind-bending.

And I am thinking that the person preaching the "One God" for a while is the 7, the missing or lost cylon, now known as Dr. Beltar.
