Well - today turned in an interesting adventure. I was told the carpet cleaner would be here at 10am. So I got up this morning and moved all my stuff out on the deck - and the bed and bedframe in the hallway and was ready. I called downstairs to the rental office at 11am - and the young lady there said - "nobody told me you were getting your carpets cleaned today - call back on Monday." to which I replied "I have taken apart my entire apartment - and its out in the hallway - I want my carpets cleaned as promised" - she said she knew nothing about it and to call back on Monday - I told her I wanted to speak to the manager; she said he was not in today - and to call back on Monday. (you can see where this is going) - the fourth or fifth time she told me she would not help me and to call back on Monday - I lost it - and told her that she'd better call the manager at home and get this straightened out - because she would be the one to come up here and help me move all my stuff back into my apartment - so she'd better start being helpful. Sure enough - the manager called me in 20 minutes - and the carpet cleaner was here until noon. He took about 45 minutes - and said it would take 6-24 hours for the floor to be dry enough to put stuff back. (sigh) thank god it was a sunny, beautiful day - and Dave adn I locked stuff up with my mattress and box spring leaning slightly out the balcony on the apartment. (giggle) Quite the view from the street. Mike Golden came by - to see us before leaving for Cultification in DC tomorrow (square dancers...) and it was lovely. :) He's such a trooper. Anyhooo...

Our first venture was to go across the street and look at the new apartments - THE ARGENTA at Polk/Hayes and Market Street. Jr. 1 BR - which is basically a 1br with a slide glass seperator door instead of a wooden door - started at $2150 a month for rent. (the 1br are $2250) These are beautiful apartments - brand new - and were built to be condos - and they decided to lease them instead. All beautiful red mahogany floors - and brand new appliances. (dishwasher and w/d in each unit standard) With the $200 parking cost - it would cost $2350 a month to live there - and here across the street I'm paying $1645 including parking. While it might be nice to have a little more room - it showed both me and Dave what a great deal I have where I'm at. So it was good little outing.

the best part of the day was when Dave suggested we roll a blanket out in the park and read and hang out with Miss Kate - and we spent four hours just laying around reading, noshing on snacks and reading and napping. It was very restful - and lovely to spend a day outside (albeit it was a little cool and breezy). We came back to the apartment and dropped of Miss kate - and Dave and I met Jeff and Shaun for dinner. (another lovely evening out with such a neat pair of guys) the four of us took in a 730pm "Monsters v. Aliens" which was cute - but not OMG wonderful. It was fun - but not memorable.

We came back here about 930am - and got the apartment put back together with a slightly different floor plan. It gives the reading chair more room - and puts the computer desk on the same wall as the TV. It's 1215AM - WAY past my bed time - and I'm just out of the shower and getting ready for bed. It feels nice to have gotten the chore of carpet cleaning done - and to have the place all polished and spiffed. (packing bookshelves gave me an opportunity to pledge the living hell out of everything - so my apartment smells like lemon furniture polish. (giggle)

anyhoo - I just had the nicest day with Dave and Miss Kate - and tomorrow promises to be just as sunny and warm and inviting. hooray for spring weekends!

How does Miss Kate feel about the carpet cleaner and Pledge smells?

She doesn't mind Pledge honestly - but - the upheaval of wet carpet and the "new" smell of the carpet - it was obvious (until we moved the furniture back in) that she was unsettled about it. Now she's curled up. She's rolls with the punches usually - as I re-arrange the apartment every couple of months. :)

Look at what happens when you push for what you want! Glad you got all this resolved and had a great afternoon.

I was a little rude to her - but her attitude or at least how I heard it was "I will not help you" vs. "I cannot help you." and that just sent me reeling. Poor Dave had to hear me to talk myself down. yikes.

Glad it all worked out. It was great getting to see you three again before leaving for D.C. Have a great week. When we get together for gyming next Tuesday, I will tell you all about my adventures in D.C., since you don't twitter.

Bob...all I can say for that lady you spoke to that kept telling you to call back on Monday was you were lucky she didn't hang up on you. I applaud your tenacity.

Have a great Sunday!

well she knew if she hung up on me - I'd march downstairs and really let her have it. She wasn't even attempting to help. her attitude was "I will not help you" vs. "I cannot help you." - and a "I cannot help you" attitude when you are in customer service for 400 apartments - is unacceptable. Why even bother having people here on the weekends if their only answer is "call back on Monday."

Given that I was a banker on the weekend for that "stagecoach bank" I think it was as frustrating for us to tell the customer to call back as it was for them to hear it (esp. when they weren't at fault).

It was their mistake and she should have accomodated you better. I'm glad you stuck to your guns!

I would be fine with a policy that said the office was closed on Saturdays and Sundays - rather than face employees who live rent free in the building and have no power to do anything beyond tell you that the manager won't be back in until Monday. It's infuriating. (She did end up calling her manager though - so I did win - but I hate having to tell people what a lousy job they are doing BEFORE they change tracks)
