David and I have a friend from two-stepping that had a roommate situation go suddenly and intensely bad - and he moved out on his own for the first time before he'd really saved up the (said with snooty accent) cah-sh (end snooty accent) - - if anyone can appreciate this predicament it's me - - having been through the Rickisodetm and having to set up an apartment of my own in a hurry. All of the "you're going to need this and this --- oh and that" is owed to Morgan [livejournal.com profile] mh58 and Tommy [livejournal.com profile] notdefined who took me by the hand at SEARS and help me go shopping. They also lent me things like a vacuum cleaner and other household items while I was getting my feet under me. Setting up your own home in San Francisco can be a pricey proposition.

But - fast forward to the now - things like a great bed are important. and when I heard our friend was sleeping on an air mattress (Gasp! Back health people! Back health!) I intervened and gave him bedzilla. (bed frame, mattress, box spring and his first set of 300 count cotton sheets)

So he and a friend came by yesterday and packed it all up and off it went to the city to help him get a better night's sleep. He called me this morning to say how perfect it was. The nice warm tones of the bed frame (a nice cherry red sleigh bed design) and black metal went real fine with his other things.

It felt really good to do - and David joked that just a few more items and all my furniture will be gone. (we gave a few tables and such to goodwill a couple of weeks ago) I told him he would have to pry my indian teak office desk-table and the bamboo rug we call "the dance floor" --- out of my clammy dead hands before we gave it away. and he was forced to admit that he likes them a lot to. :)

We also made an important kitchen purchase this weekend - big boy tupperware! We've been using countrycrock containers and fruit containers from Safeway for a year and I decided it was time for tuppers we could use and actually SEE the contents. Rather than opening several countrycrock containers before actually finding the leftover I'm looking for.

We bought a eleven piece set of tuppers (actually rubbermaiders) - and boy has this kind of stuff come a long way since I last went looking. We bought a set of "lockits" that have plastic flaps on the side that clipe down and keep the top from coming off. (handy for people who carry their lunch to work in a messenger bag). We bought a set of "produce savers" that come with a small tray that goes in the bottom and vents to keep produce fresh. and the set came with a "free" takealong (a single tupper with seperate compartments for lunches, etc.) and two "premiums" - which claim to be stain and odor resistant (which 'll come in handy for storing things made with curries or beets or other high stain items).

I also bought a bike light set for the ten-speed so I can bike safely to the gym on weeknights - and get my workouts in. I also think I'm going to enjoy having the bike in working order. I got the chain all lubed up - and cleaned (Dave's bike has been in the storage locker for a while). and after making sure it was all pressurized in the tires - and took it out earlier for a nice ride in the 60 degree sun we're having today (sorry folks back east and in the southeast).

Now I'm trekking over the the bike shop to talk XtraLarge bike helmets. The only one TARGET also made me look like I go to school on the shortbus - and even if I can be a bit daft every once in a while - looking cute while biking is important. I am gay after-all. :)

Then tonight - Dave and I are off to the city to have sushi with Jeff and Shaun. then perhaps some two-stepping on the way home.

We've had a remarkably restful weekend together.... I hope you have had a good one as well!
