yep - that is the quote to put a new transmission in my Mini Cooper - nearly a 1/4 of the value of the vehicle at resale (after a quick look around the internet) - and just about 1/2 the car's currently blue book value.

I'm suffering from MASSIVE sticker shock. It's probably new used-car time in muffin-world - - we'll see how it all shakes out.
