Home from my first day on campus as staff at Stanford University.

My new office is in the basement of a freshman dorm right across the street from the new Business School that is under construction. I share an office with three other people; each of us with corner cubes and our backs to one another. so I won't be doing a whole lot of nonwork computing at this gig - as it provides far less privacy for some of the awesome nudity that people sometimes share on LJ. So I'll be rather careful. My office mates are Shilin (shee lin) and Rob. both of them are business analysts working on improving/streamlining the revenue generating apps for the department.

RD&E (Residential and Dining Enterprises) comprises of four groups: Dining, Hospitality, Residences and Catering/Conferences. It is a highly visible department catering the needs of literally anyone on campus from students to staff/faculty to visitors. It's a very interesting set up. Today I met a few department heads and went through my orientation paperwork and got the 30,000 ft. overview of the current lay of the land web wise. Each day this week, my boss, Herma and I are going to eat at each of Stanford's different eateries and cafes. (oh darn, right?)

It was also 92 degrees on campus today - after being in the mid-80s yesterday - so the tie was quickly lost and I did a lot of running around in the golf cart with the boss going from building. My brain is mush as a result - so many names and people and personalities. Tomorrow is a long meeting with the Vice Provost and lunch with her. so that will be interesting to meet with Shirley again.

but it was a great first day!!!
