It occurred to me last night - while watching Mozart's Figaro - that it's basically "Three's Company" set in the 17th Century, LOL!

All the plotting, silly antics, men dressing up as girls not to be found out, the count who pursues women insidiously - then just has to drop to a knee and say "I'm worthless, forgive me" - the page (played by the soprano) for whom every woman on stage falls in love with, mystery parents - - - and it just keeps going and going - layering ridiculous plot point on ridiculous plot point. And of course, we love it! (well at least I do)

SFOpera's production was gorgeous - and I had forgotten that it runs for three and a half hours. The acting and singing were tremendous. I can understand how "serious" opera fans dislike Mozart - because the plot - well - as I said - it's sitcom style sex farce with the same jokes run over and over. But the saving grace is Mozart's GORGEOUS score and SF Opera's beautiful staging.
