thoreau: (phasers)
great workout this morning? why you ask? my favorite musclebear chatted me up. Since I started at Golds - I haven't been that social there while working out. a) because I'm there to work out and I'm on a schedule! (WE HAVE A SCHEDULE TO KEEP PEOPLE! LETS GO!) b) because most of the guys that work out at my hour - particularly at first - were all so buff I felt like the fat guy on campus - so as I get bufferier so ups my confidence to socialize I guess. This morning I met Bill - he always leaves the gym dressed to the nines with a little gel in his hair. He's always in a dark blue suit - and a beautiful chosen tie. He's got that silver/black hair and goatee, sparkly eyed thing going on that simply melts me. Working out around people like Bill - is like putting a carrot in front of a horse. It makes it much easier. Anyway - so now instead of being afraid of being "caught" giving him looks I can now look my favorite musclebear in they eye and say "Good morning, Bill!" strange how little things like that feel so nice.

AND I actually rocked pullups AND am starting to like situps. who knew you could actually LIKE situps? I weighed in at 179 this morning. but feel like the new 'level' of RealJock workout is putting muscle on - so I'm not worried about the 4 extra pounds I'm carrying.

What a great way to start the day!~

One my favorite documentaries of the last year is out on DVD today!

I found this documentary fascinating. As I've been studying Buddhism in the last few years - and enveloping that into a discussion of food helped me see food in a whole new way. Personally, I think [livejournal.com profile] kitchenbeard lives this a lot more each day than I do and is a MUCH better example, but....

I know there are a fair number of buddhist thinkers on my friends list - so I thought I'd share this....
"HOW TO COOK YOUR LIFE"

Move over “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance!” Here comes Zen and the Art of a Good Meal! Filmmaker Doris Dörrie turns her attention to Buddhism and that age-old saying, you are what you eat. In How To Cook Your Life, Dörrie enlists the help of the charismatic Zen Master Edward Espe Brown to explain the guiding principles of Zen Buddhism as they apply to the preparation of food as well as life itself. “How a person goes about dealing with the ingredients for his meals” explains Dörrie “says a lot about him. How To Cook Your Life teaches us to be attentive in our everyday dealings with the most mundane things and also open our eyes to one of the most beautiful occupations: cooking.”
