Last night was the first run-through of the play - with the actors about 90% off book. Parts of the play are simply devine, smooth and perfect - - others? not so much. (laughing) My character has long periods where he sits and listens for pages and pages then has a one word response them pages and pages of dialogue. You'd think I could memorize a line like "I'm glad I could help.." and "Saint James has left the buildling" - -- but both times - the play came to a screeching (crickets chirping) halt each time. (tres-embarassment!) It was the first run through - a month from opening night and all - but still. I was disappointed in myself. Tonight is the wonderful photo shoot for the promotional materials and press packages. The outfits are divine - they sure got a great costumer for this show. Everyone is in these saturated warm colours. We're going to look amazing. I can't wait to see the photos and share them with you here. (patience is NOT my forte) (um - duh?)

They had everything set up like a Hollywood photo shoot - big lights, nice backdrop - - cool music. They took some really fun fashion-pages sort of shots - of everyone but me. They shot the other two couples in the show extensively - then when I got up to pose with Leo - the photographer and the director had me sit back down and they photographed Leo with his "two best friends" in the show - rather than me.

Then when we finally did take a group shot - I was placed in the back looking over shoulders. Now - I wasn't the photographer so perhaps I was more visible but I felt invisible to her - and to the director.

They dressed Leo and I's couple named "Roger and Mike" much more conservatively - because we're the over-forty more settled down pair. Most of the cast was in tanktops, shorts, jean jackets and loose fitting "younger" clothing.

I was in a beautiful pair of gorgeous tan patterned slacks - a really stunning lavender cashmere sweater - a yellow silk tie and a purple dress shirt. I felt REALLY sexy in that outfit. Leo looked beautiful in a print dress shirt, green tie and dark slacks. He was adorable!

Apparently - the bear couple nor pictures of me were how the photographer or the director wanted to promote the play.

So I sat in makeup for two hours watching other folks get their picture taken. I'd come home beforehand to take a shower and make sure I was ready at the call time listed in the schedule - was ready 15 minutes ahead of schedule - in costume and makeup. The photographer was late - and didn't start shooting till 1/2 an hour later.

I just hate having my time wasted like that.

I'm glad I didn't have to stay and rehearse after because I was really pissed off.

I think this play is going to be marvelous - even if a third of the cast isn't 'sexy enough' for the promotional photos. I get how plays work - and how they are marketed. I've been there. I know that only one or maybe two shots will get used anywhere and they'll probably be the big happy dancing group shots that I was included in. But, even if you aren't going to use any of the other shots - it felt like I was considered less sexy than everyone else. and I work really hard to keep my weight down and be well - - sexier than I used to be. So the essence of it all was I felt really devalued.

According to the Wine Spectator: "Plenty of blackberry and mineral aromas follow through to a medium- to full-bodied palate, with bright fruit and a medium finish. Drink now. 1,300 cases made." (12/07)

According to Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Barbera d-Alba Serra de-Gatti is a fresh, vinous effort bursting with candied red cherries that recall Pinot Noir. This plump, accessible Barbera is a great choice for casual drinking and is a terrific value. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2009. This is a very strong set of new releases from Cascina Val del Prete, one of the leading estates in Roero. Working out of his tiny estate in Priocca, proprietor Mario Roagna fashions wines that are remarkable for the sheer pleasure and drinkability they provide."

I solved obsessing about a hard day at the office and frustrating evening at the theater by putting together a plate of hard goat cheese, wheat crackers, lightly salted cashews, white and red grapes and thick sliced ohsodelicious genoa salami.

Along with a nice thick glass of the "Serra de Gatti"....

yummers!
