Chicago is an amazing, amazing city....
Oct. 13th, 2008 08:29 pmWow! Walked around Chicago all day - snapped 230 pictures!
What I thought were the 17 highlight shots are playing at the end of this post in the slide show from my google account. (you can view them here if you'd like for slower viewing)
We had breakfast in Oak Park with Laurie then caught the El(evated) into Chicago - walking to get our tickets for the Architectural Boat tour - then we took a ride on the ferris wheel at Navy Pier (*coughing* tourist trap *coughing*) - then took the amazing - simply overwhelmingly cool boat tour. 90 minutes by boat seeing some of the most remarkable array of architecture. This point of view from the water is simply astounding. For those of you who are architecture nuts - I uploaded the entire set of tour photos up - but they are not that large of photos so you can appreciate them in a folder without spending the rest of your life downloading. Chicago is a visually overwhelming city - David and I saw so many styles and types of buildlings we were going dizzy! The beauty of Chicago and it's colourful history - is just astounding - and continues today with the Trump Tower and the new "Chicago Sphire" by the same architect as the Milwaukee Art Museum, -- and then - got blown away AGAIN by the Frank Gehry designed "Millenium Park" both by his "band pavillion" - his "walkway" - but also the amazing sculpture "cloud gate" by Indian artist Anish Kapoor. Then we got back together with Laurie and met David's other cousin, Phyllis, for dinner in Greektown. We had a lovely time - and it's so great to meet these folks David is so close to - we laughed and had a wonderful meal.
Now - we're back and packing and making sure we're ready for our big train departure tomorrow on the California Zephyr - bound for Denver. Yay!3
