Today was another anniversary - my return to the gym. A year later - I can't imagine my life without starting every morning with the gym. I gotta say there are so many guys at Golds that serve as models of what I could become with more dedicated work. It's hard to believe that I lost all the weight - and now I'm working on losing my tummy (ab machines are the evil!) and building muscle. I'm really proud when folks see me out and say "hey skinny!" My new gym partner, David - is working out really well. and I know taht in my next year - we'll see a buffed out Bob. Woof!

I've laughed about those old Charles Atlas ads where the guy gets the sand kicked in his face. and really - my move to SF last fall was about getting out of a conservative political environment - and concentrating on ME for a while. I was unhappy how my body looked - and I communicated that unhappiness with my posture and my attitude.

I'm starting my 40th year at the weight I was at 17 - which rocks. Now I want to gain about 10 pounds of solid muscle. I loved seeing [livejournal.com profile] nakednsf's "I've been in SF 18 years post" the other day - and thinking that we all have dreams that are just waiting there for the right time to explode for us. The move to SF sparked SO many dreams and ideas - and the next year is going to push in entirely new directions. WOOF!

Ah yes, Charles Atlas and Dynamic Tension! He was my boyhood idol. I so wanted to be big and muscular, but it just was not in the cards. I never let go of it, so at least NOW I've made it through the gym doors! Congratulations Robert.

*grin* I just remember these ads - and thinking about them. SO it made me giggle when I thought of the title for this post and went and found the ad to add to it.

Hey congratulations on such great progress. I have become completely addicted to the gym. I think it's my healthiest obsession.

as obsessions go - the gym is pretty good for you. but then I don't have a physique like yours (yet)

but I am losing tummy - and have goals.

(it all remains carpeted and furry though)

I've lived in NYC for almost 24 years. I moved here in January of 1984, I was 21. Thinking back, I realize I have lived out most of the dreams I ever had and have experienced so much of what the world has to offer and yet I still feel like that 21 year old all the time. ;-)
