pictures - tattoo session #1
some folks had asked for pictures - so tonight after I removed the saran and showered up - I took some photos.

and a reminder of the scope of the entire Tlingit/Haida formline glyph
a farther away shot - to show the actual size of the area of the finished piece.
the art "on" is only the tail fin of the entire glyph.
close up after a shower. about 1/3 of the design is down.
There is almost no pain at all at this point.
It appears that the pain is mostly 'up front'

There are areas of the body that that are worse than others (anywhere near bone without fleshy protection...so centre of chest, ribcage - although, oddly top of buttcrack as well) but there is also a certain point you need to get past. This is not a macho thing - just means the endorphins then kick in.
I also find that you need some method of distancing from the pain, seeing it as sensation alone. Mostly I do this with breathing, some gum to bite on in the rough bits and, well, putting my mind elsewhere.
Good luck.

Hence is the good and bad of selecting a tattoo artist. If you get a gay one, you'll be able to kiss, cuddle, and maybe even jerk off on your buddy to make him (and you) feel better.
If you go to a straight one, you can select a 250 pound hairy bear-type artist with a beautiful beard down to his navel, but have to limit yourself to hugs.

That all being said, it's going to be beautiful and such a statement!
