We had the first rainstorm of the season last night in San Francisco - a boomer with a big rolling clap of thunder and lots of rain. I loved sitting in bedzilla and listening to it rain. The rain hits the window like a steel drum - and it's a sound I've always found very comforting in the dark of night.

This morning the air was fresh and the streets covered in puddles, and steaming cup of Kona in hand, I took Miss Kate out for our morning stroll.

Miss Kate, however, hates rain, and is not a fan of "the wet" as she calls it.

So - it is always fun that first rainy morning where you can see her literally navigating the sidewalk and the park for the minimal contact with "the wet". We are walking out of the park this morning - and it starts to rain again. I look down and say something like "Sorry Miss Kate - it's that time of year again" - and she looks up at me as if to say "yeah? well wait till I get home and wipe wet dog fur all over your couch." and then lets out a little huff as if to say "and btw - fuck off".

We continued along in an awkward silence, avoiding the bigger puddles. Even her favorite smell spots have been washed away and you can see her disappointment. "this smelled like raccoon poop yesterday. fucking rain." So I get her home - and it's the first time we drag out a towel and dry off her feet.

(I'll have to remember to put the doggy towel in the hall closet next to her leash.)

Even though the fall equinox isn't until tomorrow - we're celebrating it early in the muffin household.... with the return of "the wet."

We had our first rainstorm down here as well! Lot's of wet stuff falling through the night made for nice cuddling with Roy...

It's bright now and we were supposed to head out for a ride today, but the roads would be too slick. Ah well, Mexico is next weekend and that should be fun!

Stay dry!

Roy is quite the furball - I bet snuggling there is very nice. :) wish I was close enough to head out on a ride with ya'll. Didn't he just get back from Mexico? (are you two romantical?)

I love autumn. Wish it were raining here now (since I'm stuck at home with work anyway). Kinda glad I don't have to deal with a dog in the rain though.

Thanks for painting such a nice fall word picture.

Hee hee, I love that "Miss Kate" refers to it as "the wet". My eldest dog, Cole calls it the "I'm not walking in that." The moment he sees me grab an umbrella it's like he's bracing himself to take an elevator ride only to reach the lobby windows and think "oh yay outside" and then take one step out from under the entrance canopy and stop dead. "I'm not walking in that." He's often off-leash and he'll quickly do his business and then trot back up to wait under the canopy while our 1&1/2 yr old puppy is pulling us around in the rain. ;)

Our dog, Vokasian ("voh-KAY-see-uhn"), is a terrier-spaniel cross and BOY -- only the rain (okay, okay -- or snow or anything she doesn't like, really) can make her make an even MORE sad face than the sad-face she normally carries around with her... ;o)
