The show lasted nearly two and a half hours... and it was astounding.

The show opened with a very modern set to Philip Glass; followed by a whimsical piece set to Verdi. Both pieces were just appetizers.

after a break - the presented a stunning setting of Dvorak's Stabat Mater - putting both genders up in a setting on the cross - it was an intense - emotional beautiful setting of dance.

Then - in a beautiful play on the audiences emotions - ran a slide show of cows - followed by 40 minutes of very intricate ballet set to the best early hits of KD Lang. It really was AMAZING! They did "High In The Saddle" as a torchsong style steaming dance - where every time the title refrain was played the female dance was lifted HIGH in the air. It was absolutely brilliant.

I cannot reccomend this fall/winter show any more...

KDFC was a media sponsor - and the "casual","comfortable","classical" banners were up - and an the "conduct yourself accordingly" poster was up everywhere.

I took a new friend along with me for the evening - and we had a perfectly delightful time.

We even terrorized the couple next to us. They apparently dance with their dance group in Sausalito (clutch my pearls and tell me it isn't so?) and even had A PICTURE ALBUM OF THEIR STAGE dancing ready to pull out of her purse and show us. It was like meeting Bobby and Sissy from Lawrence Welk - only on Paxil. (laughing)

After the second intermission Miss DanceTheNightAway sorta figured out that something "homosexual" was going on - and stopped socializing.

So I leaned over to my date and said "She's not talking to us because she's figured out (margaret cho voice)We have the gay" - which of course, she was meant to hear. My date erupted in a fit of laughter and we got a good howl out of the situation - miss conservative just leaned back in her chair - properly set in her place. I was probably a bit harsh on her - but it was SOOO obvious that once they figured out we were gay - they stopped talking to us. I soooo couldn't let that stand... (snap!snap!) She spent the rest of the performance sulking because the evening was no longer about her - the poor dear.

It really was a grand night out - great company - amazing performances - - another quality night out in the city by the bay.

all in all - a GREAT night out.

Snark rules!

I can't decide which I enjoyed more; your description of the program, or your Cho-ing the bigot. OMG!

When will they ever learn; the lowliest of The Gays will always trump all but REAL Royals amongst the straights... ;o)

Didn't they get the memo?

Great comment! And not too harsh at all! First of all, they ARE at the ballet to begin with... AND watching a 40 minute number set to kd lang songs! Gay would seem to be the expected, not the shocker!

Loved your recollection of the dance, but your retelling of the Sausalito cow is what brought the house down here in denver. how oddly rebuffed the straights can act when somehow it dawn on them: "i buleeve thems a cuple a homa-sexshals". She was so nice to you before, but then has to withdraw completely because of her new "understanding".... golly gads, these straight people are just weird and handicapped.

Was the Phillip Glass piece called "Amazed in Burning Dreams" by any chance?

If it took her talking to you....

Two men, together, at a ballet performance....well, if it took her talking to you to figure out you're gay, well, she's just not very bright.

I miss my tickets to the dance series at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

I'm feeling culturally starved at the moment!

Glad you had a GREAT Time!
