in the last 48 hours I've seen The Women and Auntie Mame for the first time...

LJ makes so much more sense to me now.

I've only seen Auntie Mame, so I get LJ only about 50% of the time! LOL

Hope Katey Dog is still going well with the fluids!

whereas I've only seen the Women, so I get the other half. "Jungle Red!'

Maybe we should compare notes? ;)

I'm afraid that when it comes to knowledge on camp old movies / musicals, etc - I just don't have the brains! I think my gay gene itself might be slightly defective - sort of like my Gaydar! LOL

I DO excel on movies like Tron, or Edward Scissorhands, or even Priscilla, Queen of the Desert though! :-)

Say what?

I can't believe that you've never seen 'em before... Wow... I'm...I'm just shocked.

Poelzl has that effect on people ;-)

the best part of The Women actually - as listening to him cackle and howl - and making up particularly gross "new" lines for the little Mary to say - - she was so innocent. (and I can do a pretty good impression of her) like "Mommy, what does it mean when Daddy comes to my bedroom at 2am and says "lets play hide the sausage" - which left Poelzl fake protesting my disgustingness and then making up some of his own.

What an admission ! If it had slipped out before you had seen them, well, you would have to hand back your Homocard.

Hope Miss kate is getting better.

I hope you saw the GOOD version of Auntie Mame, with Rosalind Russell. :)

Libido, inferiority complex, stinko, blotto, free love, bathtub gin, monkey glands, Karl Marx... is he one of the Marx Brothers?

"There's a word for women like you, but you don't hear it much outside kennels."

"Jungle red, mother, jungle red."

Read Patrick Dennis' Auntie Mame and Travels with Auntie Mame. A decent library should have them, though there was a resurgence in his work a few years ago, so they might still be in print.

Uncle Mame by Eric Myers is a great biography of the eccentric Patrick Dennis.
How he earn his living at the end of his life wouldn't be believed if it was in a movie script.
From: [identity profile] madknits.livejournal.com
Yeah, I read it. I gave it to my ex when it first came out, and read it when he was done with it. He also collected as many of Dennis' books as he could, getting them used if he couldn't get them new. I enjoyed them, but there was a certain frenetic quality that had me reading something in between each book. He, on the other hand, devoured them.

I like The Joyous Season, if only because it has a dachshund in it.

Now if you have seen The Ritz, you will reach total awareness.

You, of all people, had not seen Auntie Mame? I could understand if I didn't because I'm so deficient in the media arts. Roslind Russel was absolutely perfect, IMHO, for that part. Every time I see it, I find something new about it that I like. I would love to see it in a cinema to get the full effect. Maybe the Castro will show it some day. By the way, I've neither seen nor heard of "The Woman", but then, I only have one hole in my homo card. I used to have more, but they healed over.

Nope! The only thing that keeps that last hole from going away in my card is because I like, uummm, guys.

yay... fun movies... I'm assuming it was the Rosalind Russel version and not the Lucille Ball one.

On the cruise last February they played The Women on their great big outdoor screen. Nothing like watching such a pure camp movie with hundreds of homos out in the middle of the Caribbean :)

From: [identity profile] low-fat-muffin.livejournal.com
My friend Eric says that I haven't seen "The Women" until I see it on the big screen at the Castro - with a theater full of homos cat calling and carrying on. I can't wait!

From: [identity profile] dendren.livejournal.com
yep... it's a totally different experience. It would be like only seeing Rocky Horror Picture Show on DVD instead of getting the whole audience experience.

From: [identity profile] excessor.livejournal.com
Oh you totally have to see it at The Castro. When that little girl starts complaining, all the homos start booing and cackling about slapping her…

From: [identity profile] low-fat-muffin.livejournal.com
My best "fake" line last night - was towards the end - when she comes in and stands in the doorway - all "innocent" and nauseating - - - I blurted out - "Mommy - what does it mean when my nightgown is all red in the morning?" Eric and I burst out laughing - and kept making up equally offensive and inappropriate lines for her.

Yes, Eric is correct. (now for an interesting tidbit, I actually met Eric for the first time at a double feature of The Women and All about Eve at the Castro Theatre). I believe Eric is the one who hisses every time little Mary appears on the screen.

The world we live in continues to get smaller and smaller.

Sweetie, every second of your gay social existence to *this moment* should now be as the penis is to the 3:00 a.m. Blow Buddies patron. ;-)

In a more important vein, it was good to hear Miss Kate is doing better today. Have my fingers crossed for her.

I haven't seen those flics in ages, but come to think of it they're really wonderful!
Jungle red is one of my favorite colors.
And when you look at life from certain angles, it's true: life's a banquet, and most poor fools are starving to death.
Keep enjoying the banquet! Hugs!
