well - I just finished giving Kateydog her last IV bag of subcutaneous love. She's really been a trooper about these IVs and injections. She's been in good spirits - even back to barking and she slept up on the bed in my arms last night. This morning when the alarm went off for the gym - she got up circled - and then snuggled in even closer! Who am I to deny her snuggletime - so we turned the alarm off and I slept till 7am. Two hours more sleep and some serious snuggleage with Miss Kate. We got up - took our walk up to Alamo Square - and when we got back - did the IV. We'll head to the vet tonight for a 720pm appointment with Dr. Fong. I'm hoping we'll get the green light to try food again. I'm figuring since it's been a week since she's had anything but a few blades of grass and some rice - she'll be ready to eat whatever is put in front of her. But - - it'll require some extra supervision - and feeding her slowly.

On another note - San Francisco Parks is giving Duboce Park a facelift - construction is starting today...

Kateydog and I always enter the park from the bottom right of this drawing (see right) - on Potomac. They are going to take the park and cut it in two. The "knoll" is currently - the favorite place for dog owners to bring their dogs - but in the planning process - it was not included in the dog play area part of the park. They are goign to cut the park in two with a new sidewalk - and then erect a sort-of fence around the bottom section with dividers and rope fencing, more decorative(?)than anything else. Curiously - the place they really need the fence along Duboce where the N train runs down the left side of this drawing? no fencing.

Dog owners will simply go to the knoll anyway. the lower part of the park turns into a mudpit in the rainy season (coming to to us SOON). at peak hour (5-7pm) there can be 40 or more dogs and owners playing in the park.

I did attend the hearings last spring. This is all being done despite the fact that dog owners outnumbered "concerned parents" 8 to 1 at the hearings - they won the battle to get nearly 1/2 the park made for "children/adult play area" and they have named "The Knoll" a transitional area/pets on leash. Yeah - we'll see how long that lasts.

Which is weird - because - well - I've lived here coming on a year (at Duboce Park) and the kids LOVE the dogs - and already have their own fenced in play area... (strangely fenced in - just like the dog area will be). Interesting. Well - we'll see how it all turns out.

How with any play fetch in that little space? And what is that up at the top of the illustration (close to where the N goes underground). In a city that is well known as one of the most dog friendly in the U.S. we seem to be losing ground on places to take our kids, especially as the city core pushes outward.

Glad to hear good things with Miss Kate. I have been fretting in abstentia for you both.

Does her breed(s) have any genetic health issues? Alix is a Jack Russell/Rat Terrier mix and that breed has a genetic issue of seizures. It was quite horrifying to see a dog that is perpetual motion laying prostrate and stiff as a board. The vet suggested a diet change which worked - natural foods and no preservatives have worked wonders.

Saving our children! Protecting our children! The use of children and the excuse that it is for children is such a crock! Does no one else live on the planet or deserve better treatment in addition to children? I almost am against anything that is prefaced as "for the children".

Maybe they could move the children's park to the lower part of the park so the little angels can get muddy during the rainy season! (Evil grin) They could do laundry detergent ads daily at the park.
