Starting Saturday I'm a part-time employee at Books Inc.'s Market Street location in San Francisco. Books Inc is the west's oldest independent bookstore - in business since 1851.

I've always wanted to work in a bookstore - and learn that whole world. It's exciting to work at the bookstore that is the exclusive seller of my novel.

Yay!³

I'll be working one weekend day - and one evening a week - to bring in a little extra cash. I have always loved that store - and I'm excited to get started!

I'll give you a few helpful phrases to get you started (from my years of working at bookstores):

"No, the hardcover that came out last week is not available in paperback yet."
"No, it's not in the back. Sorry."
"You may be buying a bible, but that does not mean you get a discount because it would be 'the Christian thing to do.'"
"I'm glad this book is giving you such enjoyment, but perhaps you could purchase it and do that at home instead of here in the kids' section?" [seriously, this has happened]
