OMG. My first day working retail - and let me tell you - - - IT's hard work. I worked 4 hours at the information desk and "free gift wrapping" station. and when my modern oragami omg I wrap presents like a two year old skills were discovered - I was moved to the front desk and ran the register for the rest of my shift.

I need new shoes... Mommy's feet are a hurtin' tonight! so I'll go shopping for some supportive standing shoes this week. I will work one weekday evening 7pm to close - then one weekend day - 10 to 6. I am going to have a ball!

But - the parade of men all day long (working in a bookstore in the castro rocks!) was delightful - lots of just plain GORGEOUS men all day long. (many of whom didn't recognize me clean shaven so I get plenty of "oh - new meat in town" looks) (yay!)

It's a very small intimate store - with a very small staff. so I got right into the deepend in my first day. One woman who tried to give me 'tude over not having a book that's been out of print since 1996 - two kids who tried to take DVDs... I saw them behind me on the security camera - and I literally said out loud "Missy - you put that DVD back or I'll break your arm" - Apparently that sounded butch enough for them to comply. LOL! go me! who knew I could be butch? as long as I stood still and didn't open my mouth The manager was right behind me - and let out a little giggle as they left the store. and whispered to me.. "Missy?" and laughed his way to the back of the store.

[livejournal.com profile] castrowoof came in the store - looking as adorable as always - and his friend bought lots of books. :)

Miss Kate and I strolled up to get a cheesesteak sandwich with extra jalepenos and a snapple. We're now sitting here listening to LangLang play Shostakovitch and STOPPING for the night.

tah.

Working on your feet is brutal in the beginning and good shoes are critical.

You'll get used to it in a week or so and your feet/legs will stop aching. Hang in there!

Did I miss sumptin'? Can you mention what store? I always buy books when I hit SF.

Missy...god that takes me back. I remember living in Madison, WI. and working in a G/L restaurant bar complex (The Hotel Washington) the leather bar there in the cellar, Rod's, had this HUGE (!!!) bartender...
Anyhow, I remember him whipping around one day to a patron who was making ucky noises and saying in his deepest and most commanding voice,(hands on hips,of course)
"Missy, if you PUKE in MY BAR I am going to THROW YOU OUT THAT DOOR FOREVER!"

6'5", 275#, hands on hips, calling you "missy". I love it.

I took a holiday retail job at Books Inc.

After Kateydog's vet visits - I needed something to add a little to the coffers. and it might turn into an ongong gig after the holidays if they like me and I like doing it. :) so - who knows?! right?

ooooo. Last time I was in SF, I bought a book there. I liked it, I'll be back, and if you call me missy, I'll give you a big old vibrato bear hug. (Not to be missed, I've been told).

Book store job?

I'm assuming it's not a "peep-sho" type of bookstore. If it's the one I think, I really love going in that store. The more you talk about life in SF the more I want to get up there to visit again. I was up there for my B-day in March and really enjoyed the couple days I was there. Perhaps I need some SF retail therapy. (pensive)

its Books Inc on Market - nears Peets Coffee across from the oncenotorious Becks Motor Lodge. its a nice bookstore - still has porn mags and such for those naughty thoughts - but lots of sale books and other goodies.
