Well - I just finished my 2007 Taxes. For the first time in my entire life - I owed taxes. Well - I got a refund from the federal return - but owed some on the California return. I wonder if I'm "deducting" properly for my California taxes. It wasn't a huge amount - but it's the first time ever that I've ever owed at tax season. A sure sign that my career has come to a new level I suppose - where I'm now a much more taxable guy. :)

CA State Income tax filing (the rules and calculations) always seem counterintuitive to me. But, in my years in CA the result was getting less back/owing, when always receiving a federal refund.

Welcome to the club, I'm going to be owing both, and a good sized sum for both though I'm hoping that by filing joint married with Shane for the the state taxes it will cut down what we owe.

I did mine this morning as well and got a tidy sum back from the Feds. In Texas, like Nevada and a few other states, we don't pay State income taxes. Thank the deities because I'd have some kind of embolism at how my tax dollars are being spent! But, having said that, I rather wish we did have some kind of State income tax and funnel that money into the education system.

It kinda makes the whole do-my-taxes-early thing feel like suddenly discovering your new boyfriend is into scat. There's a thread of disbelief with the unmistakable sensation that something wrong has occurred.

If you get to the point that you can save by giving money to charities, we work for a non-profit radio station.

(That's a scary thought: Supporting Duke&Banner?!)
