So - neither Kateydog or I wanted to get up this morning. The alarm went off at 5, 510, and 520. and then finally got shut off. The third time it went off - Miss Kate let out this low moan - like - "shut the goddamn thing off will you?" and then (and she never does this) burrowed under the covers and snuggled in next to me and we slept till 7am.

What neither of us anticipated however - was that by 7am - her need to go outside and pee would be well. URGENT! She went from snuggled in nice and warm to whirling dervish of puppy energy in a nanosecond. I hurried and got dressed and she peed right at the curb outside for almost 10 seconds. With a clear look of relief - we went across the street to get a cup of kona drip coffee then went on our morning walk. We're back now at 745 and she has sniffed every inch of sidewalk in a six or seven block range. Some mornings she really puts the sniff in SniffPatroltm - my favorite is when she literal whips around in the air doing a 180 to get back at a sniff she almost missed.

Her favorite sniff spots? outside the Thai restaurant and the french bakery across the street at Filmore and Waller. (i have no idea where she learned to love french bakeries, no - no idea whatsoever), there is a photo gallery in down Filmore that she loves to sniff. (My guess is that it's a 'bedroom' for someone at night time - and that's what she's smelling - and then there is trashcan row along the bottom of Duboce Park. Three city trashcans at the bottom of the park for picnic stuff (in spring/summer/fall) and dog stuff. She would still be back there sniffing if she had her way. She's now noisily eating kibble and I'm sipping my coffee.

Since her little hospital stay back in October - she's starting eating her kibble much more enthusiastically. She used to be a dainty eater - take a mouthful, eat it, savor it. ponder it. Now it's omg this is good feeding frenzy. I also get her the more expensive kibble since I have had to cut all human food - and her treats have been cut back too. So perhaps its because her diet is more about the kibble that she's finding it so exciting. who knows.

ah - I just heard the toaster click up.

Raisin Toast! Because we all know that coffee+raisintoast=UltraLove!

Is Katie able to go in the cafe with you, or do you have a convenient way to secure her outside? I've been dogless for a long time now, but I'm getting a puppy as soon as he's weaned. I'm contemplating all the ways that will change my life. In good ways, of course.

the cafe has dog posts out front that you slide the handle of the leash over and voila! - plus - Jr. the pit bull was there for her to flirt with. (she has a crush on a lite brown pitbull named Junior) its extremely dog friendly. Katey doesn't like going inside places. She gets anxious for some reason. Once - when i first moved here - she bolted from my hands after being taken into pet store for a new collar and literally ran several blocks before being caught again. Her adjustment to the big city includes - letting me know she doesn't like going "in" many places. but - when she does feel comfortable? she moves right in at other places. It's curious.

There is nowhere in California where it is "legal' for non-service animals to be taken into establishments where they serve food. That said, there are many places around the city that either ignore that rule, or find a way to allow people to take their pets with them. In San Francisco, however, you see pets attached to parking meters, trees, road signs or just sitting patiently outside of the door waiting for their two legged counterpart to come back for them. In general, dogs in San Francisco are extremely well mannered and trained.

I don't like seeing animals left in cars, which happens a lot here, but maybe for a few minutes if it isn't hot. I saw a woman carrying a little dog at the grocery the other day. That seemed weird. Having been involved with show dogs for many years, I am accustomed to people who treat their dogs more like livestock to suit me as well. But you really do have to consider how you will integrate your pet into your life. I think Robert does it very well.

Leaving a pet in your car during warm/hot weather is a big no no here and can get you fined. When we take our dogs in town, we go in pairs so one can sit with the dog while the other runs inside. Of course, if it is Pet Food Express, no problem, the get to go in with us. :)

I adore raisin toast! :)

Finlay HATES getting up in the morning and I get up before the sun so he always tries to hide under the covers instead of going outside.

Miss Kate is TOO cute! Well, except when she tried to pick up that nasty pair of poopy underwear that time I walked her with you. EEK!

Early starts I'm used to, never a problem there.
However it's your declaration of coffee and raisin toast = Ultralove that concerns me, only because you left out the butter, lots and lots of butter.

lots and lots of butter is a given where Raisin Toast is concerned.

When my alarm went off at 6:45, Armand (Cat # 1) came up and snuggled under the covers too. He liks to sit on the pillow sometimes or curl up between my legs or in the crook of my arm, but never under the covers!?!?!? I got up stretched, and sat back down on the bed against the headboard to do my morning prayers/meditation and he couldn't stay close enough to me. He usually just sits at the end of the bed and sleeps.

I'm so very glad that Miss Kate is doing so well now. I know that I would be utterly crushed beyond description if something awful happened to my own Miss Lola. Lola has taken to marking her new yard with great enthusiasm. Actually, Wade tells me than when he's taken her for walks, she's marking the neighborhood with the same vigor.

BTW...LOVE the new icon ;)

I'm happier with the looks that way - so posting that as an icon makes me feel real good. I was happy to read how you are re-engineering your workouts as well.
