It's amazing (as is the museum and its collection in general).
I have a fondness for nocturnes too; the ones G. O'Keefe did of scenes in NYC are my favorites of her work.

Date: 2008-03-01 04:46 am (UTC)Well, TX is a red state overall, and also has lots of Baptists, but it also has lots of old-money families with fortunes in the billions. Houston has the lions' share of those ... much more than Dallas. In the US that's the most fertile ground for museums, as far as I can tell. The progressiveness (or lack thereof) of the public sector is a minor character.
Think about NYC, SF, and Houston, and Dallas and Fort Worth, and how the cultural institutions are funded in each of thos cities. Generous and/or egoistic rich folks for the most part.
