soaking in it....

My flight home from Seattle was uneventful yesterday.. and I caught the bart/muni trains home and David was literally - parking in front of my apartment and turning to walk to my doorstep as I turned the corner. It was a very special way to be welcomed home. We had an incredible afternoon together - walking Miss Kate (or as David calls her, "The Mrs.") through the neighborhood hand in hand. We hit up the Safeway and Golden Produce for dinner.
We invited Tom and John along with the Michaelstm for dinner. David doesn't cook much - and has actually asked me to help him learn how. So we made a nice salad with craisins, parmesan and a lovely tomato medley we picked up at the store. (along with these marbelized tomatoes (green and red) that were remarkably yummy and added a nice flavor. I made a great spaghetti meat sauce with turkey, port wine, mushrooms, fire roasted tomatoes, fresh oregeno and garlic. Tom and John brought dinner rolls - and David got us prosecco. (dry italian sparkling wine) The Michaels (the Good Michael and Just Michael) brought cheesecake - and we sat there and chatted up all evening. It was delightful!
Nothing makes me happier than cooking a nice dinner for friends - and cuddling up on the couch and laughing. Everything was discussed from fisting adventures in Amsterdam on mushrooms to pink tuxedos to a brief foray into cultspeak (c3 vs. c4 vs. a vs. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz). I do love having such outrageous and conversational friends.
After the boys headed home - David asked me if I'd consider reading him my novel - a chapter at a time before we go to bed when we spend nights together. What a touching idea! So - last night before bed - I read him chapter 1 and we enjoyed a luxurious snuggly night.
It's been years since I had a man in my life that I can sleep with without ever letting go. He really enjoys being held. Miss Kate was all snuggled up in bed with him when I left this morning. Because of the distance between Palo Alto and SF - such weeknight/worknight slumber parties are pretty difficult. But we're both already looking forward to next weekend.
I chattered with the neighbor walking to the train and am now back at my desk sipping morning coffee and getting back into the work routine.
But - considering the Seattle trip - and yesterday with David and the boys? That is the best weekend I've had in a very very long time.
