So - - it's Monday. A sunny (albeit cool) Monday in San Francisco. I had a lovely workout - chatter with Mr. Jeff ([livejournal.com profile] beg1n) - then a lovely sunshine walk with Miss Kate with a big giant cup of Kona. The park was sparkling this morning (most likely because of morning sprinklers than anything else, but... still.) and the dogs were in a really playful mood. Miss Kate has made friends with a female beagle puppy named Poppy. It's great fun to see Miss Kate play like a puppy at nearly 9 years old.

We came back home and I packed up my lunch (in my [livejournal.com profile] bukephalus provided Carebears lunchbox) and headed to work. I was a bit spiffed this morning - because I'm going to the Bay Area Theater Critics Awards Dinner tonight with Tom Kelly. I walked into work this morning (where I'm usually very casual) and folks were like "So Bob? heading to a job interview?" and I was "If I were heading to a job interview I'd soooo be wearing a tie." LOL. okay - so I thought it was funny - what+ever.

David emailed this morning and said someone had a heart attack and collapsed at Sundance last night. He's pretty sensitive to those kinds of things - and said he wished I'd been there to hold his hand and keep him "safe". What a lovely note! I feel sorry for the poor chap that was ill - but David said that he talked to one of the nurses and that it "looked a lot worse that it was" - which hopefully means a quick recovery for the poor chap.

David and I had a good chat yesterday about things like Sundance and the cult (squaredancing) that we both really value our hobbies - (me: writing, acting, painting, etc.) (him: square dancing, Sundance, math magazines and science magazines) - and that we're not going to be one of those dating pairs connected at the hip like siamese twins. That felt like a real healthy conversation. So it was why I stayed home - got mellow - and did some journaling and writing last evening instead of going two-stepping) The ladies here at work have dubbed him "Dr. Boyfriend" - which is pretty funny. I'm really resisting giving an official nickname of any sort. (so far)

Busy day at work and lunch with Eric Burkett - (a possible roommate!) - and then off to the theater thang this evening. ttyl.

Unfortunately, it looks like the man at Sundance died. Apparently [livejournal.com profile] dhbearguy knew him and wrote a little about it in his journal...

(big sigh) how sad. thats a tough thing watching something like that happen. it makes you want to remember to treasure every single second you have.

First...You look spiffy.

It sucks that Ken died...I'm kind of staggered, cause he was such a strapping, athletic buck. He and I used to go out of our way to dance together at Stompede (he was pretty damn sexy, too). He invited me home one time for "canoodling". I didn't take him up on the offer for some reason... Now I'll never get to Canoodle with Ken, and that makes me sad.

Still, you look spiffy.

yeah - to cut costs. if I had a roomy to share expenses with - say - rent a $1800 apartment split hafsies - I could eliminate my debts by next birthday - and keep saving for retirement. Living alone has been a lovely (and important) luxury - but in order to get things under control money wise - I need to split expenses.

Very handsome, my friend :) And glad to hear you're more at peace and content it seems. You deserve it as much as anybody I know.

contentment I've discovered is a choice. you can either flail around in a whirling dirvish or settle and learn to be still. :) We can chase after happiness like a dog after its own tail - or stop and realize that sometimes - the greatest things come in the day to day. I still dream - but I'm being more measured than impulsive - which is what got me off the path in the first place.

Reminds me of one of the affirmations in my guided meditation audio.

"I am free to choose peace at any moment in my life."

Your analogy of the dog chasing its own tail reminds me of a story I heard that speaks to this very point. It goes something like this:

One day a kitten came back to the neighborhood, having finished cat school, and ran into an older cat of his acquaintance. The older cat asked the kitten what it was that he learned in cat school. To which the kitten replied, "I learned two things. That my happiness is in the tip of my tail and that I can chase it anytime I want."

The older cat found this curious. He said to the kitten, "Well, I never went to cat school but there are two things I've learned too. Like you, I learned that my happiness is in the tip of my tail. But the other thing I learned is that if I just go about my day doing what I want, it follows me everywhere I go."

As a gay man, who can say if your happiness can be found in your tail (well, now that I think about it, maybe it is...snark), but here's to letting it follow you around for a change.

I'm curious. So how do you usually dress for your work? When I was traveling to the West coast two weeks ago I noticed this dramatic shift in attire as I moved away from the East coast. I loved it. I often get chastised here because I refuse to wear a suit (I'm a priest not a banker) preferring instead khakis or jeans (sometimes with my collar).

You look perfectly professional and comfortable. So how do you normally dress for work?

I dress like this usually :)

Sigh...

Looking good... Working from home, my sense of style has gone right out the window. I have been known to spend the day lounging around in my boxers. Good thing I rarely deal with customers directly.

LOL at "Dr Boyfriend" you really should use it...

You look nice!

I vote “Buttercup” or “Bubbles.”
