view from the Top of the Mark room towards the Bay Bridge and downtown

I met up with my friend Rodney Sharman (visiting from Vancouver) last night at the Top of the Mark. Wow! the view and the drinks and the ambience. It is an amazing place! (was thinking it might be an uberromantic place to take David for drinks some evening - - get a small group together and go up there for dessert)(ppsst - Josh ([livejournal.com profile] enhydrasf - you might take Christopher ([livejournal.com profile] scream4noreason) up there....)

They had a great selection of port wine - and the most devine cheese/dried fruit yummy tray. (technical term of course).

Rodney is in town debuting a piece of his music (curiously and beautifully titled 'The Ruins Proclaim the Building was Beautiful') with the San Francisco Ballet (how exciting is that!?) as part of the New Works Festival this week. I had him by the station yesterday - to be interviewed. He's also been invited to participate in a Sondheim music event in 2010 - where he's one of two foreigners (out of 20 composers) to "rethink" and rearrange a Sondheim song for a big festival. The other foreigner? Sir Elton John. So it is really quite something to see Rodney playing with the big boys and making noise.

I skipped the gym this morning because I was so ramped up when I got home last night - that I slept horribly. Not really finding sleep till about 3am. So I slept until the absolute last moment this morning (an unheard of 8am) - and rushed off to the office. I'm a little discombobulated - because I usually (being up at 515am) am wide eyed and bushy tailed by the time I reach the office. this morning has required extra vitamin c (caffeine).

ttyl.

As trite and touristy as it may sound, take David to Harry Denton's Starlight Room. It's really romantic and the views are extraordinary; especially in late summer. Say, after Folsom Street or Castro Street Fair? It's always a destination for us during San Francisco's Holy Week.

I love Harry Dentons :) but get this? the Top of the Mark - looks DOWN on Harry Dentons by about 200 feet. it is right up the hill behind Union Square and part of the Mark's view - is union square and dentons big star. :)

You might also want to try the top floor of the Hyatt in Embarcadero 5. The floor makes 1 rotation every 30 minutes, giving you an unobstructed 360 degree view of the city. It's quite a nice place for a drink and a romantic night.

I think the room is called the Solarium. You take a fantastic glass elevator up to the room, step over a cut in the floor, and the outside of the floor makes a complete rotation every half hour. It's really gorgeous and romantic on clear nights.

I had the opportunity to stay in that hotel many, many moons ago (like 1991 I think) when I was in town to work MacWorld for Motorola. We went up to the Top of The Mark as a group one night and I loved the view! Haven't been back since, but as I can see, the view is still stunning!
