Otters and The African Diaspora

Met the lovely Mr. Shore today for a stroll through the MOMA - only for it to be the day when the MOMA is closed. (sigh) So we went around the corner to the Museum of the African Diaspora. It's the first disappointing museum I've visited in San Francisco.
The current exhibit had promise - "AFRICA.Dot.COM: From Drums to Digital". It was billed as "In contrast to classical African art exhibitions, Africa.Dot.Com: Drums to Digital focuses on representing Africa as part of the modern world, with cultures that have navigated into new media alongside the global community. As major characteristics of the information age, technology and new media are the dominant global institutions of communication at present and carry with them immense power. Access to computers, mobile phones, digital cameras, web cams, and other electronic tools has been increasing at a rapid rate." Which sounds like a real fascinating topic honestly - but the exhibit was drapes of printed fabric with cell phones and computers - fashioned in African dressses - and a couple of giant paper mache cell phones and a mouse. It was also curated poorly and crammed into a very small space.
The permanent floor - had a very jumbled exhibit on Celebrations that someone ended on how Africa is the source for life on earth.
It is the first museum in San Francisco that I can honestly say I would not reccomend.
It was great to meet Andy - (whom I share a birthday with - as well as
It's always great to put a voice to face - - and get to know someone in a new way. That has total Yay!3 factor.
