came home and miss kate had tried to tear the moulding off the door to come find me. :(

So - I had to break out her crate and I crated her up. The last thing I need is her destroying the apartment while I'm gone.

I hate putting her back in her crate - but perhaps its the best thing for now.

:( Poor Kate. She probably still thinks she's in the old apartment with multiple rooms.

Aww. Sweet and sad at the same time.

You need a doggie therapist.

She's unsure of her surroundings, and she craved her pack for reinforcement and safety. A few days to learn that it's okay to chill out while Pack Daddy is gone, and everything's on the same schedule as before, just in a different place, and she'll be right.

Ditto. She'll get better. You're lucky Miss Kate isn't a Belgian Shepherd. Talk about psycho. . .

We have part-time custody of Ross's dog by a former marriage. Jock's an old timer, a well-trained, very bright Jack Russell, but he pees by the French doors on the first night he's with us, every single time. Our preventative efforts don't seem to matter -- he'll find that 3-minute space when Ross is in the shower and I'm brushing my teeth to RACE down the steps, cock his leg, and RACE back upstairs before he misses anything.

He doesn't live with us normally, the house is new to him, you know the drill. Just a dawg being a dawg.

sometimes we have to do things for a little furry ones we would rather not have to, but it's being a good pet parent

You might want to put down some piddle pads. They're at the pet store.

Humans work mainly with pictures - visual stimuli. Dogs, on the other hand, work with scents - olfactory stimuli.

When you're gone, the poor dear misses your scent and panics. Crate her, but leave her with some dirty t-shirts to sniff while you're gone.

Oh, and leave the radio on. Set it to talk radio, so she hears a human voice.

Miss Kate won't piddle in her crate - and rarely if ever pees in the house. I just need to clear my schedule this week and keep her feeling like the center of the universe when I'm at home.

she has the radio - usually on air america. :) its good for her. LOL! I had forgotten about how she panics - she had gotten very used to the old apartment.

The piddle pads aren't for Miss Kate. They're for Audra's part-time guest dog.

Poor Miss Kate. It's such a tough call, but it's only temporary while she adjusts to her new home.

Thanks for the tip, grizzly! I'll definitely give the piddle pads a purchase since you postulate their prevention of puddles. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Srsly -- sounds good. JOCK THE DOG! (that's his real name, all in caps, with the exclamation point) needs some help to get over his compulsion.

The piddle pads are a training aid for puppies and have been treated to draw them to it.

They generally measure about 2 foot square, and I'd recommend putting two side-by-side, on top of a piece of vinyl carpet runner.

JOCK THE DOG! pees on the wooden 6" wide threshold of the door. It's a funny habit he's got there, and I couldn't tell you why. The carpet going up to the threshold is brand new, the threshold is painted with gloss paint so any dirt comes up in a jiff, the previous owners didn't have any pets...? Where is the compulsion coming from?

There are 2 other doors in the house. He's too rotund to get through the cat door in the kitchen, so he rarely worries about that, and he's the total boss of the front glass door where he can survey his kingdom and all would-be interlopers. No piddle anywhere in the entire house but the threshold of the back door. Goofy muttly.

I'll take some piddle pads back with me and give 'em a whirl. They would have to affect his habit somehow!
