San Francisco Symphony @ Shoreline Amphitheater

A rousing evening of fireworks with the symphony. They played all sorts of stuff from Aaron Copeland's Fanfare for the Common Man to John Williams Calling of the Heroes. I made chicken curry sandwiches with currants and mango - and the couple we went with brought juices and chocolate chip cookies to die for! The show was marvelous. They performed Copeland's Lincoln Portrait and Lauren Bacall was the speaker. She looked devine - I wonder if she lives in the neighborhood? The fireworks were directly overhead and were very cool.

I have heard that Bacall lives at the Dakota. And that she has the last original, unaltered apartment that AD has been dying to photograph for years. But that could just be an old queen's tale.

I'm curious then how she ended up in Mountain View CA for the 4th. it wasn't like it was a ritzy event at all. it was a "Radio Disney" sponsored fireworks show. Interesting article on The Dakota - thank you.

I'm sure they just paid her something nominal. It's not like she is in-demand much anymore unfortunately. She has the best stories and used to make the talk show circuit. For the past few years she has been a spokesperson for Tuesday Morning. Betty Joan probably just took the gig to keep busy.

I see from the wikipedia article that Rex Reed and Steve Guttenberg both lived in the Dakota. I wonder if they were roommates? Eh?

In fact, they were.

And quite happily until that fateful evening Steve jokingly locked Rex out in the hallway while he was wearing Judy Garland's dress from the Wizard of Oz, thereby causing Jason Robards to suffer a mild heart attack upon spying the "ghost of the homesick girl from Kansas dashing through the corridor."

The co-op board was not pleased.
