in an email from my trainer:
Cut back on dairy, only non-fat dairy choices. Dairy has a lot of naturally occurring sugars. Lean Proteins only, chicken, fish, and lean lean beef cuts, no pork. Lots of veggies, not over cooked or fried. Lots of fruits. Only whole grains, complex carbs. No No No soda, candies, very limited refined sugars. Allow one day a week to have a treat, and don't cheat any other day, let that day be the one where you look forward to your ice cream and be strict and controlled with yourself. :) Okay now go and be gorgeous!
So it's back to a few months of the food diary - and learning to get rid of some of my worse diet habits. First off - I adore dairy - and will drink milk (as David puts it) "raw" and eat cheese as a snack often. The no pork means no bacon which saddens me a great deal - so I'll have to perhaps have bacon on my once a week treat rather than ice cream. A lot of what he says is common sense - but it is going to be good to diary and pay much closer attention. I was afraid he was going to say no coffee and no caffeine - he would have been soooooo fired. LOL!

How about turkey bacon?

Specifically, Oscar Mayer. My breakfast of choice.

There seems to be a great deal of variation between brands of turkey bacon, so find one you like, and be patient.

I've never tried it - I guess I'll have to add it to the grocery list!

You didn't already by the alarm clock your brother was talking about did you? That would be a shame. Though you could use chicken or fish instead. Would that aroma be enough of a wake up call?

I already have my coffee maker set on a timer - so that the apartment fills with the alluring aroma of Hawaiian Kona. :)

Mooooooo!!!!

For what it's worth:

I *love* cheese with a passion, but a few years ago I cut dairy and dairy products from my diet because of some gastronomic difficulties (ie., mustard gas got nothin' on me.) I thought I'd miss it and was surprised to find that, although I'll occasionally have a bit of cheese, I don't miss milk, yogurt or ice cream at all (except as clouds in my coffee, clouds in my coffee...)

Here's to gorgeousness.

nonfat milk or nonfat 1/2 and 1/2

I'd rather skip the coffee altogether.

Hood Dairy makes a product called "Calorie Countdown" which is a low-carb milk substitute made from milk. It's pretty good and in California, it's available at Bel-air, Food Maxx, Nob Hill, Raley's, Save Mart, Wal-Mart and Yosemite stores.

I'm sure life will be worth living on this diet your 'trainer' is recommending, but it'll be a stretch.

This morning, I brought my usual daily lunchie-munchies that are spread over the morning: yogurt, an orange, celery and 2 diet decaff sodas. I don't go out for lunch.

But of course the evil people in Bookstore accounting just brought around a tray of doughnuts and guess who took one!

LOL - It's actually not THAT restrictive - lowfat dairy choices are already in my repetoire.....

Oh my! I admire your willpower!

I guess you are not allowed cakes either? *feeling faint at the thought*

cakes on my splurge day (probably saturdays) are totally okay!

If you were to do cake, you could probably find a nice sugar-free angel food cake, which you could then top with sliced strawberries sweetened with Splenda and topped with some fat-free Cool Whip.

By the way, I looked up "turkey bacon" for you. Not good. Not good at all.

So, I looked up Canadian Bacon - which is more "ham-like" than "bacon-y", and that looked fairly reasonable to me.

Be sure to check out the serving size - the default is to 1 CUP of crumbled bacon. That's a bit much, even for me!

You looked plenty svelte enough when I saw you at the Fair. I'm really against any food prohibitions. I think its better to assess what's appropriate and seemly in a diet and then challenge your creativity to explore new ways of eating. I find that trusting orthorexics to guide your eating habits is like giving a 12 year old the ability to program your iPod.

That seems like an awfully restrictive food plan. Is it temporary or long-term?

Wow, that sounds serious. But it sounds like it's okay to drink skim milk, which I happen to like. I also indulge in fat-free cheese. Dairy is a good source of protein, which is what you need to build muscle. So it's good you have some dairy options.

I'd hate giving up pork myself. At least he let you have a splurge day!

Good luck!

Vegans are The Root of all Evil!

From: [identity profile] bruinwi.livejournal.com
To paraphrase Carlos Mencia....badly:

Cows emit methane which erodes the ozone layer. Eating beef cuts back on the cattle population and thus the methane levels.

Plants create oxygen through photosynthesis.

Vegans whould have you forsake meats for plantlife, allowing more cattle to create more methane, while depleting the very things that restore the oxygen supply!

Granted, this is an over-simplification, but there is a logic there.

I think you could do bacon-flavored ice cream on your cheat day.

...um, maybe not.

HUGS!

I could never do the no dairy. My main beverage is milk. I can go without soda and I don't drink coffee, but milk .. forget about it. I'd have to get a different trainer:)
