Tonight was the final tech-free rehearsal of Friends are Forever. Tomorrow night we're dark - then it's into Hell Week. An all day tech cue to cue on Saturday - and then a Tech Run on Sunday - then dress rehearsals Mon, Tues, Wed and Thurs - - then we finally open for an audience on Friday.

The set is so friggin' cool - a stylized art deco SF skyline on the back wall - with art deco furnishings and a big screen/scrim - hand painted with a real cool Victorian pattern - and big white glassless windows hanging to give you that bay window feeling. I know that they have all sorts of super cool lighting in store - the lighting diagram was PACKED - with light spots all over the stage... it's going to be so beautiful!

I am VERY excited to add lights, sound and costumes to this play. It will change how characters interact because every ounce of who we were when we walk into the theater disappears and our characters come forward. I am loving the neurotic, anxiety driven Roger than I play. His lines are purposely written to be too much to say in the space provided so he really just speaks at a nervous Warp 9. His tastes in clothes are in silk ties, cashmere sweater vests, bow ties and finely tailored trousers. He may be more subtlety dressed than everyone else - but what he wears and uses are the finest quality. He also is just head over heels for his partner; even willing to break WAY out of his comfort zone to make sure Mike is happy. Granted - I am bringing some of me to this part (falling in love with David this spring for instance... and occasionally being a little neurotic...) but it feels like a new direction for my acting. Most of my plays have been the comic relief and also, musicals. So to be in a production that is funny - but that nobody plays the clown, that the humor comes from the believability of how sometimes our lives (particularly in SF) are just an nth-degree of separation - - - it is powerfully satisfying in an entirely new way.

There are several scenes that just BROKE OUT tonight and gelled - and by the time we officially open after a week of previews (August 23rd, Saturday, 8pm) this play is going to be a locomotive full of great performances and upbeat music and attitude.

serious Yay!3

Having Tom Kelly there? why would that make me nervous? he's been at many rehearsals - and we did date last winter - (giggle) - so no - that would not make me nervous in the slightest bit.

Occasionally? *teasing* ... Wish I could see the production! I'm always really excited to be in the costumes. It's such an important layer to understanding the character. If often suggests a certain way of moving ... well, you know ... your description of your character's clothes immediately suggests to me how you will play him. Break a leg!!!

HUGS!

Lovely to hear you're in a show .. I take it this is an original new play? There's always something especially exciting about going into tech week. It's crazy and at times you feel like you're riding a really bumpy subway with nothing to hang on to - so you 'surf' your way through the twists and turns... but you know it'll all be OK. Those magic moments that suddenly 'gel' for the first time are miraculous to watch - even for those of us who do not appear on stage.
Wishing you a happy adventure - BTW, the set sounds exciting! - plus energy and good vibes to get you through to opening night, where I want you should break a leg !! Huggz
