daylight savings....
Oct. 28th, 2008 07:45 pmI decided after coming back from my vacation that I'd try switching up my workouts. I did my first evening workout at the gym today. (I have lost three of the six pounds I complained of losing two weeks ago - so ya'll who told me to shutthefuckup and workout, were right.... of course)
With my emphasis changing from weight loss to strength gain and building muscle - I don't neccesarily need to follow the mantra of "workout before you eat- so you burn fat and not calories that your body ate during the day" (and who knows - even that can be bullshit)... I do know I need to eat sensibly - starting with my oatmeal in the mornings - and keep to healthy lunches (NO BURGERS!) - I love salads (particularly at Cafe Trieste and Working Girls downtown)
What I do know after my first evening workout at SOMA Golds - is that was charged with a whole different feeling than morning workouts. It's almost a party atmosphere - lots of talking, lots of interaction - - where the morning crowd is much more - "I'm here to workout - let me put on my iPod and get to work; no time for chatter."
It is a little bit more crowded but it was crowded with an entirely different set of guys and gals. (so the eye candy was tremendous) I did my 45 minutes of elliptical - then a leg workout. I love my legs - while they are not
excessor uber-legs; I do like being stockier. Now to continue losing stomach fat and building the arms and shoulders. I'd like to stabilize my weight back and 180. and keep it there while building strength.
The best part of working out at Golds - thats different than any part of my life - is that I feel like a peer there. I don't feel like the out of shape weakling that doesn't belong at the gym. The #1 improvement in my life since moving to San Francisco - is finding my way to MUCH healthier lifestyle.
and since Dr. Dave loves "cuddling up with his furry strong boyfriend" - it's best I keep it that way, huh? (wink)
I noticed a lot of folks working out together - some obviously romantic partners, some friends, even some mixed gender workout pairs. It felt nice to work hard and come home and take a quick shower - and now I'm having a bowl of noodles and hanging with Miss Kate.

Date: 2008-11-04 07:32 am (UTC)Whenever I've joined a gym to try and better my muscle and body shape, I've never been able to get past that "weakling" feeling...
Plus being the impatient bastard that I am, if I don't see results within 6 - 8 weeks (that I can notice myself), then I normally give up!
Bah!
